Idk, I’m just not feeling it. Especially since I’ve been quite busy lately.

It’s fine, you can leave if you want and I’ll completely understand. Life can get like that sometimes.

Wow, the nice mister looks like he's really asleep. He's not even waking up when you ask him to!

"I sent you on your mission, lizard. Gate: Ventral Room Surface, Transport to Demi-Plane H-34. Authorize...er... 2 thinking humanoids and 1 thinking feline."
A portal opens on the floor, positioned right next to Zeth, who's in a bit of a coughing fit.
Blood. Blood's what he's coughing as he halfway loses conciousness and sort of tumbles into the portal.

"Good to know ol' buddy ol' pal! Where are ya headed?"

 

Immediately enter the portal, but make sure to grab Han with me.
"Let's go." (more towards the kitty)

"I'm heading to INSERT THE PLACE WHERE THE GUARD TOLD ME TO GO. Say, you're not some other-dimensional alien that drinks sode and kills people, right?"

 

You don't notice too much of a shift, only slightly higher levels of background magic and such.
There are a few bright figures dotted here and there, but Zeth's just sort of passed out on the floor. One of the figures walks over and sort of... pokes him.
???: "Uuhh... Zaris? You good?"

It's a blessing that you can't see it, but you can definetely hear the hacking of blood.

Zeth/Zaris(?): "Sorry about.. ugh... sorry about that, ghost. Whispering thing.. whispering thing was.. -"
Another fit of blood.
"- really scary.. ok..? Give me.. give me a few hours to not die..."

Plunging into the portal, you exit the other side of the shimmering gate, finding... the inn?
It's a portal to itself, at least for you. Zeth and Ling are gone.

"Look, being honest I just got tapped for a job to tail you by the higher-ups, okay? Why they'd be interested in a senile old man's beyond me, but orders are orders."

 

I say to myself "sure this works" I exit the inn and look around for anything interesting, preferably a market or a bookstore that's not blown up

 

Lots of things who seem powerful.
I seem to be here alone with no guaranteed persona- no guaranteed fighting combatants on my side.
Stop playing with the pendant and just hold it in my hand.
"...Who are you?"
Slightly tilt my head to see if the portal's still open behind me.

 

"Oh! Yeah, that's probably becouse I'm evil. Wait, which higher ups?"

Matt sighs and follows you out the door.
Somewhat chaotic out in the street. People are either frantic or running, because apparently some tremors can scare them faster than an explosion ever could.
Asking around for one of those things, you're led to the southern part of the city - just before the docks, wherin the streets are filled with stalls of various kinds. Even then, the buildings clear out until it's just a massive open-air market.
A spellbook.. vendor is easy to find. It's a guy in a hood, on a corner of the street. He has a sign reading "Spellbooks - Potent, for a good price!" not in imperial common, but in the language of your desert homeland.
Odd.

Sky blue magic, holding an oddly wispy effect magic doesn't usually have. It's still there, but it's slowly fading. Maybe a minute until it's too small for you to go back through.

"...err... okay? My higher ups are some people that are higher up than me, and send me on weird cryptic missions for reasons that only become obvious like 100 years later. Good answer?"

...No? Nothing too interesting.

 

A minute to talk...
No. Less than a minute if I want to be safe.
*glance up at the others before focusing on Zeth*
"Elf... Explain."

 

I go to the vendor

 

"A 100 years later? So you are a demon! or Angel... or Elf... or gay homicide alien."

 

Because my priorities aren't straight, I decide to try to use my spellbook to turn my ring into a magical focus.
