"Okay.. but I never knew you were there."

 

"Well, 'scrapped', meaning, 'put him in a box until we get famous and the return on investment is wild'. Or, 'keep him until we need to reuse parts'. I'd have a more definitive answer, but they were smart enough to not talk about my impending doom of a future in front of my face."

 

The water guardian nods, smiling, before swimming back over to their friends.

 

“You... are you okay? Maybe spent too much time in the dream plane? I brought you there in the first place, the dragoness you talked with a lot is my friend’s partner.”

Fenira heads off in the direction indicated, keeping a fairly brisk pace.

“Apparently not smart enough to keep said impending doom from being blatantly obvious.”

 

She ends up following another stream, this one seeming to come down from a mountain in the distance.

After a lot of walking, Fenira soon finds what seems to be a large altar in the middle of another lake, a sandy, chalk-white bank surrounding it.

 

Fenira decides to wade through the lake, doing her best to keep her gaze straight ahead as she approaches the altar.

 

So it was him that brought us to the cave?

 

Lake fish and water guardians swim below Fenira, some glancing up at her but none greeting her. Once Fenira reaches the altar, a portal opens leading to a vast ocean.

 

“It’d take a lot more time and effort to keep up the facade.”

 

Yes, it was.

Fenira pokes her head through, curious.

"No effort whatsoever is still a bit... unusual."

 

A salty breeze meets Fenira's nostrils, the sound of crashing waves below filling her ears. It's hard to see below the surface, but it looks extremely deep. There doesn't appear to be land for miles around.

 

I shrug.
"I don't know the entirety of what their game-plan was. But, once again, they're dead now, so it clearly didn't work."

 

Ah, sheet. I knew it, but I wasn't sure.

"Huh.. strange that I never asked your name."

 

“Well... I suppose I can only ask for so much.” She hesitates, stepping back with indecision before looking towards the sky, curious about wind condition.

“Most people never do, I don’t blame you.”

“Unless that was their plan, for some backwards reason.”

 

"Now I just feel stupid for not remembering your face."

 

"That'd be a backwards reason indeed."

 

There's a calm breeze above, lethargically moving the clouds across the fields. Over the ocean however, a strong wind blows through the portal.

 

“I’m surprised you were able to see in the first place. Most people aren’t in that little light.”

“If it is a possibility, someone has done it.”

Fenira leaps through, using the strong wind to help push herself upwards to the calmer breeze.


Praecantatia feels a telepathic link break from her, even though one never seemed to have formed in the first place.
“Dad says I can come. Can I come now?” A vaguely familiar voice asks her.

 

"That's... sure, I guess."

 

It's tough, but Fenira manages to get above the strong ocean winds.

Now higher, she can see seagulls circling and island in the distance.


"Who are you?" Praecantatia asks.
