“Why, exactly...?”


Fenira nods, seeming to perk up a bit.

“It’s innate, really. Each town has a part in powering it, so that answer is almost everyone.”

 

"To protect you." The robot says.


A turn back around after a few moments.

"Alright, maybe she can explain this situation." I say.

 

"How many towns are there then? I've seen the human and the shapeshifters' towns, are there more?"

 

“Isn’t it safe here?”


Fenira still doesn’t seem sure about your presence.
“You aren’t here to end me, are you?”

“Forest creatures, and there’s a small village in the swamp.”

 

"No. It is safe." The robot says.


I draw Shadow Katana, pointing it at Fenira and looking serious.

A second later, I put it away.

"Of course not." I say, smiling.

 

“Wait... so yes it is safe, or no it isn’t safe?”


She doesn’t seem to react.
“You’re nothing like these beasts.”

 

"It is safe." The robot repeats.


"I would think so." I say, glancing around.

 

“Ah, memories.”
I joke, continuing to follow.

 

“Then why do you need to protect me?”


“You’re short a few hundred titan beasts. My apologies.”

“Were you made in part of flesh?”

 

"Oh, and where is this swamp you speak of?"

 

“Southeast, past the forest. Have you never been there?”

 

“Somewhat, but when I broke out, the place kinda, uh, looked like this.”
I wave my hand around, gesturing.

 

"In case it is not safe." The robot says.


"It's fine, just try not to kill too many." I say.

As if summoned, a giant, black beast roars, charging toward Fenira.

 

“Isn’t the entire realm safe?”


“I kill as many I need to stay alive.” Fenira says, preparing to look up at the beast.

“Aftermath seldom is pretty.”

 

“Sounds ‘bout right.”

 

“Anyhow, if you’re mostly robot, you shouldn’t make too much of a mess.”

 

"No. Like I said, I only visited the humans and the shapeshifters."

 

"Yes." The robot says.


As Fenira prepares, she hears another roar - this one sounding more human. It seems to catch my attention, too.

A large, strong looking Shadow leaps from the beasts' back, screaming. They hold a large axe above their head, and seem to have it aimed for Fenira. I quickly step in the way, parrying the attack with Shadow Katana.

"Theombra." I say as if addressing a co-worker, narrowing my eyes.

"Well well well. If it isn't the king of kings. Never expected to see you turning to the side of the beasts." Theombra says.

"A little hypocritical, wouldn't you say?" I ask, keeping an eye on Theombra's axe.

"Our beasts are well trained, and we use them to hunt. Sorry we can't afford to buy your fancy premium food up in your giant palace in diamond town, some of us can't get such an easy supply of food," Theombra says, "And speaking of which, this one has been killing our beasts. I thought it was just a few random casualties when they didn't return, but we've lost half of our best hunters due to this...thing. It needs to die."

I sigh, "Your beasts are the reason nobody sends you food. Any kingdom kind enough to take pity on you just gets their vehicles torn apart before they can even see your kingdom." I say, sounding frustrated.

"Spare me the diplomacy. I came here to kill that beast and it's what I'm going to do." Theombra says, readying his axe again.

 

“How could it become unsafe?”


“You sent your best to hunt my rotting flesh?” Fenira challenges, staring at Theombra’s neck. “No matter. You aren’t the first to try and kill me, nor will you be the last.”

“Perhaps you should visit there once you finish your matters with Rema.”

 

"If someone wishes to harm you." The robot says.


"After we found out you were the one cutting our food supplies, beast." Theombra says, annoyed.
