    Now
I'm going to take a good guess and say that this has been done before.
So please don't nuke me off the face of the earth just because I couldn't find it in the search bar ok thanks (the closest I could find is "what are the hardest bosses you've fought" or something, not specifically focusing on just boss altars).
    Moving on
I've always wondered what people think of the easiest to hardest boss altar. Personally, I find the idea of the boss altar quite interesting and fun. Saying none of them don't have any problems is a bit of a stretch to put it lightly of course, but I still found them pretty interesting and enjoyable to do. Based on this, I would like to know what you guys would rank as the easiest to hardest boss altar. Here is my own list and the reasons of why I put them there. Please keep in mind that this is going to be based off of if you were doing it alone and the level it is intended to be beaten at, as well as my own personal experiences. So, let's begin a giant rant, shall we?
Plague Laboratory: To be honest, plague lab isn't all that difficult to me. The design of the boss is to swarm you with the constant threat of relatively unkillable debuffers while still trying to fight a ranged boss. However, considering if you are quick enough, those minions will never actually be a problem. Also, for people who actually do quests, they most likely have just gotten Olux Prized weapons, which I have used against plague doctor and beat him with relative ease. Even when the minions begin to swarm and gather more, they don't present themself as much of an issue, just now you have to multi-task knowing that the threat of the minions does exist. I will admit though, to a player who has no idea what to expect of the Plague Doc, or doesn't have the gear to adequately and easily fight bosses such as myself, he becomes quite the foe, essentially becoming a harder version of Slykaar in a way.
Tribal Sanctuary: I have a feeling I might get a bit of controversy for this one being so low but let me explain. As a newer player (myself included) this quest was quite a nice way to demonstrate what boss altars are and how they work. However, the Tribal Sanctuary was the hardest boss I had ever fought up to that point in my time playing wynn, wondering if it was even possible to do at it's level myself. However, after a few tries, I learned that the boss isn't honestly that bad. The main issue I think people have with it is if you aren't careful, he can easily ohko with his multi-hit at that level without adequate gear. Another issue is the healers, which basically provide an immortal wall for the boss until they are killed. Once you actually learn the boss's mechanic of the healers and keeping your distance if you see him use a spell, it honestly shouldn't be that bad, but I can understand why others find it difficult.
Challenge of the Blades: Not going to lie, but Challenge of the Blades is one of my favorite boss altars. It has a unique way of presenting itself as a boss. Rather than being your usual "here's a guy with a lot of health and damage, kill him", his design is to split into multiple strong minions in an attempt to overwhelm you. While the idea of swarming is not unique, the idea of the boss literally being the swarm rather than just a side thing you have to juggle along with fighting the actual boss is. As said, the whole purpose of this boss is to swarm you and cause chaos, and it gets progressively harder the more you fight it. On top of that, it's also got many different spells (if I'm not mistaken) at its disposal, causing even more chaos. At level 70, it proves to be quite a threat on it's own. However, I wouldn't say the boss is that terribly difficult. While I find it fun, most people would probably find it more annoying than difficult.
Geyser Pit: I think most people will agree that the Geyser Pit isn't that bad, but I understand why others might say it is. The main reason I don't think it's that bad is because of its level. Since it's level 90, I believe it's safe to assume that people have fought things like Bob or Death by now, which could be considered easier or harder than this boss. However, the player has encountered stronger bosses like these before, and is ready to take on this one as well. The thing I like about Geyser Pit is the tunnels of the boss, which make you have to keep an eye out for those annoying self destructing robots, which are more or less the core of the boss. The boss isn't honestly that bad as long as you don't absolutely despise flamethrower (which I honestly don't mind flamethrower outside of when I'm using assassin), which made me personally not feel like the boss was too terribly challenging. I believe that it was stronger and more difficult than the others before this one, but not as difficult as the ones later on in this list.
Bovine Barn: Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Shots, why did you put a boss altar that's the lowest level boss altar as harder than the previous? YOU MUST BE A BIG NOOB!"
And tbh I agree with the noob part but moving on.
The reason I find Bovine Barn to prove to be a challenge is the nature of the boss altar itself. Let's assume the player actually goes to Bovine Barn at level 20, meaning they don't have their third spell yet. They are then met with the strongest mob they have ever fought up until that point. If I'm not mistaken, the boss itself has 2.5-3k hp at its level, which is 500-1k more than that of the only boss someone would've probably fought up to that point, being Arakadicus. This would (and has for me) catch you off guard if you were a normal player just exploring around for the spike in difficulty of the boss at that level. The scarecrows also prove to be an annoyance by respawning relatively fast (for me anyways) and pummeling you with projectiles as you try to deal with a cow that can also charge to catch up to you and take quite a bit of hp from you. However, like most bosses, it becomes much more manageable after you try it out a few times, and tbh although it seems like I'm making it sound really bad or unintentionally attempting to, it really isn't.
Sunrise Canyon: Before you scream at me hear me out. The boss isn't really hard, but more of a test of patience. If you are patient, this boss won't be that hard. For an unprepared player, I can understand why this boss is such a threat though. He can take a massive chunk out of your hp, and even at higher levels such as level 50-60 he still presents his damage as a massive threat. He also has anti-kb, which can become quite lethal to those who don't make note of it. Not only does he have decent-good ranged capability with arrow storm and his melees, as well as his anti-kb for movement, but he also has charge spell for movement and multi-hit for those who get close to him. This is why I say the boss is a test of patience rather than a test of "Here's a boss. Kill him as fast as possible to not take damage". If you wait him out and just be wary when you see him use a spell, you will easily prevail. Get impatient and try to speed up the process, and you will most likely die.
Altar of Sanctification: Now, I've only done this boss altar around 3-4 times probably, making it most likely my least done boss altar outside of possibly #2 on the list. However, to put it shortly, the boss is a harder and stronger version of Matryoshka Idol to me. When I first did the boss, it reminded me multiple times of Idol. Multiple forms each varying in strength, various spells with each form, etc. I don't really know how to describe what it is that makes me feel that this boss is difficult. It just feels that it is to me enough to be higher than the previous boss altars I have mentioned. I know that's kind of underwhelming, but the boss will probably go up or down in the list and I will be able to give more adequate feedback when I do it more.
Arena of the Legends: When I first did this boss, I found it quite interesting yet at the same time challenging. I think I wouldn't have found it as easy (relatively, as I'm not calling the boss easy but saying it was easier than I expected it to be) if I didn't have to fight CoW before it. When I first fought CoW, it was more or less the point in wynn where I said to myself "Ok, now I actually have to take these bosses semi-seriously (outside of Tribal Sanctuary)." This made my mindset be prepared to fight stronger bosses such as this one. The boss itself did prove somewhat challenging for me, as I did not expect it to have as many forms as it did, but at the same time was easier than I expected. At that level, the boss can prove to be quite a foe for those who are unprepared, as it has 5 forms all based around a certain element (except for the last which is rainbow). It can become a wall to players who aren't using multiple weapons or a neutral weapon like I was, so I can see why people would put it higher on this list. The boss is also extremely versatile as well, switching between various spells and forms of projectiles as it goes from phase to phase. The final phase (and possibly other phases but I just find it most noticeable in the final phase) also has heal spell, making it a wall of hp to get through. Tbh, I might honestly have moved this one higher or lower, but for now I'll just leave it where it is. I will admit though, Magnus has killed me by far the least out of any boss altar (excluding #6, although that is mainly because I haven't done it much compared to the others along with #2).
Prison of Souls: I found the prison of souls boss altar, and still do, one of the most challenging things I have done at the mid game (I consider 1-40 early game, 40-70 mid game, 70-90 late game, and 90+ endgame) phase. While on the surface the boss didn't seem that bad to me at first, it quickly become apparent how dangerous this duo can become. To be honest, I consider both parts of the boss one and the same as a boss, rather than calling one the boss and another a minion. While one half of the boss promotes the idea of a minion like mob, the other promotes the idea of a boss like mob, and this synergy between the two is why I find it so deadly. The minion like portion has spells such as heal, and is ranged, while the boss aspect of it is melee with many spells at it's disposal. Once you kill the first phase of the minion aspect of the boss, it becomes more of part of the boss by speeding around trying to hit you while you're still trying to dispatch the other boss at the same time. Like #6, I can't really describe what it is that I find difficult outside of this. It just feels that way too me.
Orange Wybel: You weren't expecting that were you?
Actually you probably were because I said that I would honestly put Dr. Legendary above Cybel in difficulty, and would put Matrojan and Death above it as well if I didn't get ohko by it but that's besides the point.
Ik Orange Wybel is probably considered the hardest boss altar by most players, but to me, it isn't. While I do admit the boss has a unique way of fighting, it's actually not what I would particularly call "hard". While the boss altar is lvl 99, most people will only do it with an actual build (unless your me and get bored and try doing it with hellstrand at level 96 and win because back then bomb spell calculated ms/ls I mean what) making it considerably easier. The minions are either a problem or work in your favor, depending on your build. For example, a spell spam mage probably wouldn't want to spawn the minions, as it would just cause slight distortion in the fight, where as a warrior melee build like apoc (and yes, last time I checked apoc can pierce wybel def) would want the minions to spawn in order to ls off them. The disintegrator cores only prove to be a problem when you legitimately forget about them or start getting pull spammed by them. If you remember where each disintegrator core is and note if you hear them self-destructing, they shouldn't be a problem. As for Orange Wybel himself, he isn't very complicated as a boss outside of the mechanic which I actually enjoy of his 2nd and 4th phases. He's just your average speedy melee boss with only two actual spells, being charge and meteor. If you are careful, neither should be a problem. I believe the reason I, and others, put Wybel/Cybel as being "difficult" is it is more RNG based rather than actual skill. Both bosses have the ability to ohko you on a moment's notice with pretty much no warning whatsoever. What if Wybel randomly hits you with a stacked charge and your agility doesn't proc? What happens if a disintegrator core literally just pull spell spams you for a good 30 seconds (has happened to me before oof)? The concept of Wybel/Cybel isn't hard to fight against, rather it is that RNG factor that seems to be more prominent than in any other boss altar and many other bosses that actually makes the boss "difficult" imo. Just because a boss has the potential to easily kill me in the blink of an eye doesn't mean it is hard to me (even though that kind of contradicts my reasoning for why I still put Cybel as harder than Idol and Death). That is why I put it as #3 on the list.
Rotten Passage: Probably being the boss altar I have done the least besides #6, Rotten Passage is so high up on this list for multiple reasons. The boss mechanic is a new one players are probably not familiar to up to that point (however later on they will see that mechanic multiple times such as Qira's first phase) of what I call a "healbot ai" (might be the official term but idk). What this makes a mob do is stay close to other enemy mobs rather than chasing after you like most other mobs will do. This boss has that ai, making it slightly surprising to those who haven't encountered it before. This isn't the main issue though. The main issue are the minions. At such a low level, I don't expect me or anyone else to be able to clear the minions extremely effectively at all. There are loads of them, and it doesn't help that each has a specific way of fighting as well. Some are ranged, some run away from you when you hit them, some are giant health walls, you get the picture. The boss itself is essentially a giant wall of hp that is usually using heal spell to heal itself and its minions, drawing out the fight even longer. He also has meteor for those who try to focus on him rather than everything else at the same time, making you have to be wary to even get close to him. If you think about it, the boss design is in a way similar to that of Plague Lab, except the minions have swapped places with the boss in terms of threat level, which for me personally makes the difficulty spike. The sheer chaos due to the number of minions as well is quite overwhelming. In a nutshell, the boss is combining the art of a swarm boss with that of a patience boss. The design of that boss at such a low level is, well, quite difficult to me, and I genuinely find it to be the hardest boss altar. Well, excluding one.
Aerie of Recluse: I'm going to go under the assumption that many of you clicked on this expecting it to be Wybel and didn't read anything up to this point, and tbh that's fine. Aerie of Recluse has one of my favorite designs of a boss ever. Similar to Prison of Souls, I appreciate the synergy between two different aspects of the boss to the point where they become one and the same; a single, cohesive boss. Urdar is not just a minion, nor is Adamastor just a boss. Adamastor is a massive wall of hp, being 400k (iirc), the equivalent of that of old Qira. However, she doesn't have the old elemental defense to match, and she is weak to earth as well as having only thunder/air defense. She shoots pretty slowly, but if they hit you, they can be quite deadly. She can also utilize meteor and teleport if I'm not mistaken, both of which can provide damage and mobility for Adamastor. She also has her heal spell, which is constantly supporting that massive wall of health she possesses. If Adamastor was alone, she honestly would be around #8-#6 on this list. However, we then have the second aspect of the boss, Urdar. Urdar just sits in an egg casually while you fight Adamastor. For newer players, this egg is either a warning sign that something is to come, or it is something just exists to exist. You never know when Urdar is going to actually explode and come out of his egg. Ofc, you can give an educated prediction of when he will come out, but you will never actually know. When he does, the boss shows its true difficulty. Urdar is more or less the complete opposite of Adamastor, which is what I adore about the boss as well. He's extremely mobile, melee, and close ranged spells or spells to get into close range such as charge, multi-hit, and pull. He also punishes you if you try to bring an earth weapon to fight off Adamastor, as (if I'm not mistaken) he is more or less immune to earth damage. Keep in mind, you can't exactly kill him that quickly either, as he has around 75k hp. Once Urdar hatches, your top priority is to kill him as fast as humanly possible. He also goes back into his egg once you kill him, meaning while he has gone for the moment, the threat of him still lingers while you continue to fight Adamastor. Not only that, but while you were distracted by the fury of Urdar, Adamastor has gotten the time she needs to regain more hp back again (especially if she used heal spell during that time). While you fight Adamastor, you have to remember that threat of Urdar always breathing down your neck, and while you fight Urdar you have to remember that Adamastor is also in the midst of the chaos Urdar causes. This boss, imo, doesn't even have that much rng to it either. The only thing I would really call rng about the boss is how often spells are used by Adamastor or how often Urdar hatches. This boss tests your ability of patience, multi-tasking, and your overall skill rather than something like Cybel/Wybel which is more luck than skill to me. I like to compare this boss to levels in battle cats (oh no). In some levels of battle cats, you will fight an extremely tanky boss which is more or less just a huge health wall. All of a sudden. a horde of enemies will rush out of the base and begin demolishing your frontline. Once you clear this rush (or if you even do), it goes back to being a waiting game. This cycle is near identical to that of Urdar and Adamastor. That is why I consider this boss to be the most challenging of any boss altar in wynn as of right now, and yet it is also one of my favorites.
    tl;dr Easiest to Hardest:
    Plague Lab
    Tribal Sanctuary
    Challenge of the Blades
    Geyser Pit
    Bovine Barn
    Sunrise Canyon
    Altar of Sanctification
    Arena of Legends
    Prison of Souls
    Orange Wybel
    Rotten Passage
    Aerie of Recluse

Keep in mind this is just from my own experience and others I've spoken to about their experience with the boss and I'm not saying my opinion is 100% correct in anyway, shape, or form. What would you personally rate the easiest to hardest boss altar?
I spent an hour and a half typing this jesus christ I need to stop @Roused wanna go get carried/get our asses whooped in smash heroes or something unproductive like that?

I'm going to agree on Aerie of the Recluse, dealing with both at the same time is quite a pain. I haven't gotten far enough into Wybel to judge that (stepped on a plate during phase one and got swarmed instantly, whoops...), but I found Rotten Passage relatively easy with enough Int. Having just finished Sunrise Canyon at-level, I agree completely.

Reliable strategy for anyone doing Sunrise Canyon as warrior - hit him with Warscream after he casts a spell, and follow up with Uppercut when he gets close.

(I totally read "giant rant" as "giant rat")

Aerie of the recluse yeah. I recently decided to run all the boss altars at level 100 to collect a kinda trophy from them all. Just bonus thing my favourite design was the sunrise canyon. It gave me chills going in and the 1v1 environment in a desolate place was nice. But recluse was fucking insane man. Once the egg boy appears you have to deal with 2 threats that can shred ur health, and he doesn’t even stay dead. It was the only boss including wybel where I came close to the brink of death

I am yet to attempt any of the end game boss altars (70+) and Rotten Passage, but the Plague Docboi has a special place in my heart. Quite an intense fight if you both don't have the damage and ways to deal with the swarm of Locusts (i.e. Ice Snake).

Aerie of the Recluse, judging from a video I saw one or two weeks ago, seems to be the hardest. Again, I'm yet to try.

Just a warning btw Orange Wybel is broken right now and doesn't spawn so unfortunately you won't be able to actually fight him until it is fixed
however you can still enter the altar fine to get the discovery, just the boss won't spawn.
