Sunrise Canyon is really bland; basically a one phase two spell boss in a static arena. It doesn’t really feel like you’re in a shootout, which seems to be the intent. I would up the damage and speed on his shots, if possible, to make them hurt, and add cover around the map, so it feels like you’re in an actual gun duel

Aeire of the recluse is pretty bland; the Gimmick only occures every once in a while, and can just straight-up be avoided by staying on the other side of the arena. Also, one phase boss. I’d add more options for what Urdar could become instead of just the one fast melee hitter (IE something that heals Adamaster, or a ranged attacker) and increase the detection radius for the egg, so you have to shift both your focus and playstyle when it spawns

Geyser pit’s gimmick is kind of annoying; you can’t really see the underground people until they’re RIGHT under you, and are inconsistent to the point where they either don’t affect the boss fight at all or are the only reason you die. Also, it’s called geyser pit. The gimmick should have been geysers.

Tribal Sanctuary is literally a bare-bones boss fight, but seeing as it’s supposed to be the introduction to boss altars, I understand why. Also, it should only drop one bead, and only take three beads to buy a mask, because otherwise it’s just an inventory filler

The Rotten Passage Altar is also a bare-bones fight, but without the excuse of being the introduction to boss altars. They have cannons. They should shoot them at you. That’d be an interesting gimmick that forces constant motion

The Altar of Sanctification is just a boss with a lot of phases and no minions. Neither the loot nor the boss is worth going to Skeins Island, doing the whole thing there, going back into the Jungle, and doing the altar. The blindness at the start should be permanent and constantly reapplied, and Skein should get some minions

The cow boss altar should be the introduction to boss altars instead of the Tribal Sanctuary, and the boss should have multiple phases to introduce the concept to lower level players

In the end, most of the boss altars just boil down to “boss, occasionally with minions”. Compare them to the actually really good altars, Challenge of the Blades and the Wybel. In the Blades, the boss starts out alone, but constantly duplicates himself, turning a relatively simple fight into sheer chaos and fun. In the Wybel, you have to constantly watch your step and watch for the minions; your attention is constantly divided between the boss, minions and the floor itself. The boss itself also has the unique gimmick of invincibility and each phase changes something about the boss. In addition, both altars have multiple phases to the boss instead of just one

Sunrise Canyon is already one of the hardest at-level bosses in the game, extra damage and speed might be a little overkill. I can understand the bland arena, although I found the canyon as a whole to be really nice.

cant you still get sucked in by a core and 1 shot in wybel? I always thought 1 shot mobs are stupid, especially if they just pull you to them then 1 shot you. You cant really avoid that or watch out for that because how are you suppose to stop a mob from casting a spell?

tbh I think that's more of a popular opinion then unpopular opinion
personally I find CLS doable at its level and honestly isn't as bad as people make it seem, but I will say it's probably my least favorite dungeon outside of CIP
also just because I say least favorite doesn't mean I still don't like doing it to some extent btw

Players around that level generally have about 1200-1500 health. His shots deal about 650 damage or so already, and I'm ahead of you there; his damage is getting an upgrade, but I couldn't actually give it as much of an upgrade as I wanted. Boss Altar stats are 2-3x health and 1.5-2x damage in most cases, and I wanted him to be 2x health and 2x damage...but doing so would have put his damage at nearly 1300 per shot.

As for adding cover...therein lies a problem with bosses and Wynn's AIs. They have no idea how to deal with blocks in their way and will gleefully walk into walls or fire at blocks, letting players totally cheese the fights. That's the primary reason all the arenas are so bland and flat; if they aren't, then it leads to situations where players will just sit around a corner throwing spells at a boss who's not equipped to deal with that sort of thing(and can't be, either).

Pull will just throw players up against their side of the wall, and Push will just shove them backwards, letting them walk back up to the wall, so that won't help either.

It's less meant to be a shootout and more like "This man has a gun. Do you have a gun? You do not."

That's a little bit impossible without creating a predictable cycle for Urdar, as mobs can't split into multiple variants, so it would have to be Urdar Egg A -> Urdar(melee) -> Urdar Egg B -> Urdar(heal) -> Urdar Egg C -> Urdar(ranged), etc. Urdar Egg's detection radius is arena-wide, and so is Urdar's sight range; 64 blocks of vision is wider than any dimension of the arena.

Regarding the heal/ranged options, Adamastor already covers that. The gimmick there is that Adamastor is a huge health tank; she should only have about 260k health tops, but she has 400k, with a measly -100 earth weakness, and a bolstered 7500 regen to match, where we usually cap out at 5000. Combine that with a chance to use HEAVY_HEAL, and her constant pushing and lobbing of Meteors making it difficult to get close, she's really quite difficult to damage, which makes the looming threat of Urdar a lot more relevant. It's also worth noting that Urdar is actually functionally immune to earth damage; 99999 earth defense, so bringing an earth weapon to take down Adamastor will leave you helpless against Urdar.
I tried to make them look pretty vibrant so they'd stand out. In addition, if you look at the floor, there's clear safe spots to stand; Self-Destruct has about a 3 block radius, and there's large areas where there's no tunnels under the floor. The idea is that you need to fight the boss while staying in the safe zones, as he constantly moves around and shoves you around with push or pull and uses spells that make you move. You have to play tactically, to avoid the explosions, as they're difficult to track. I'm told that this altar is actually ridiculously easy...
Yep. It dropping multiple beads was Salted's idea; it's 4-10, so it could take only a couple of battles to get the beads you need for a mask, or it could take more.
Really? Have you tried it at level? Cause it's absolutely brutal being assaulted by so many enemies, and Haros acts similarly to Adamastor, being a huge wall of health that lobs strong Meteors at you and heals himself very consistently. Especially since you've not got all your abilities at that point, it's actually quite tough.
Skien's whole thing is that he -killed- all his minions. He literally killed every single soldier on the island, and you're exorcising his soul. Why would he have minions? It's an exercise in endurance, as he has a grand total 125k health with very high damage to match. The only reason he doesn't just kill you outright is because I gave him a high attack rate(3) to make sure it wasn't completely impossible.

It feels like it goes quick, but that's only if you have weapons that are good against him. Each of the first 9 phases has 10k health and 4k regen, so he's extremely endurant, especially when he's charging around. The 10th phase is particularly brutal, and I had to nerf him multiple times in testing before he was anywhere close to fair. The combination of his spamming Multihits, Charge, and Arrow Storm is incredibly deadly...

Tried multiple phases in testing. It felt like it died way, way too quickly, and there isn't much we can do with him since all he does is Charge and Push. The primary challenge is meant to come from the fact that you're only Lv 20 or so; you've barely gotten your third spell and you're being thrown at a boss stronger than anything you'd have faced up until that point. He has max altar stats; 3x health and 2x damage.

Wybel's phases don't actually change much, except making him cast very slightly faster.

I want to make more altars like Challenge of the Blades; it's so far my favorite altar in existence, but coming up with so many unique gimmicks is incredibly tricky given the resources I have to work with.

    • Guilds are one of the best parts of Wynn
    • Ice Barrows is a good dungeon. Others think it's too long/difficult but I think other dungeons should be just like it (and I managed to solo it on Assassin lvl 46 no potions).
    • Lament is a good weapon and doesn't need a buff
    • Warchief with the upcoming buff is amazing as well
    • Elemental defs are overrated
    • Spell mage is a bit boring, I personally prefer poison or melee on mage
    • Sky Islands and Canyon of the Lost are great places, you just gotta learn to navigate them
    • Although Wynn has many flaws, there are also many things it does which other games don't, which is what I think makes it great.
    • You don't need to find a mythic to get rich. I made enough money to buy a Thrundacrack (back when it was 6.5 stx) by selling legendaries alone.
    • The best quests are the ones that have story, cutscenes, and interactive activities outside of fighting mobs to gather materials
    EDIT: More
    • The music, though made by noteblocks, is very good and unique. It is what you should be listening to when playing this game because it was specifically designed to fit whatever scenario you were in. People who listen to other music while playing the game and haven’t heard the OST before are missing out and not experiencing the game properly.
    • Desperate Metal is a good quest (I recall seeing some complaints for the quest a while ago)
    • Grinding isn't so bad, it can actually be fun so long as long as it's not excessive.

It's true that you get 7 le, though money isn't that valuable to me since I don't participate in the trade market. It still isn't fun though grinding like that. There are infinitely better ways to make quest ironic or funny like say having funny dialogue or situations, not poking fun at the worst aspects of MMOs by just doing the worst aspects. It's like the game is saying,"Hey, remember when the game was extremely grindy? Lol, wouldn't it be so funny to remind you of all of that? Now go grind for 10 minutes. Don't worry, there's an actual reward at the end, though I won't tell you about it so you might miss it by accident. It'll be so funny! That's how irony works, right?"

Though it is optional and there are plenty of other quests in that level range, so it's not too bad, but it could definitely be better.
    ________________________________
But they add replayability, and genuinely increase the quality of the game. A common feature of bad games is inconsistency, because no matter how good a part or multiple parts may be, they get dragged down by the other parts because you have to drudge through them. Not revamping stuff also prevents later parts of the game from building off each other, leaving everything unconnected. Which then makes the game experience boring because nothing impacts each other, and stuff you do now won't matter in the future. It's one of the biggest issues with quests right now. For example, the Realm of Light quests are supposed to be the climax of the game storywise, but they poorly build each other, let alone the other quests and they end up not being important after you finish them.
