Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

The start of screams fade out to a still-quiet purr~
"The mage descends from the north. He disturbs magic himself in his return. The beast awakes, senses something amiss. Only 2 gods are awake right now, and they both simply watch. The angels aren't coming. We will destroy ourselves."

*ahem*

Ghosts are an imprint of a mortal's natural life magic, generated upon a particularly unwanted or violent death. Unlike living mortals, a magic soul encased in flesh, ghosts are purely the former. It takes a massive amount of strength and willpower to hold a ghost together, even unknowingly. As such, by current conventions (scant evidence exists that this was not always the case, see Fall Millennium), they experience final death once their purpose has been completed, or they come to terms with their original death.
While most mortal fighters duel using either physical combat or the redirection system of magic, spirits typically only fight with their mind and whatever's at hand. Their primary advantage is their refusal to die, ever. Exceptions to the rule of weaponless spirits are those created in exceptional duress, or to those that have the weapons as part of their core identity. An example of the former can be seen in the collapse of a small country several hundred years ago (name and reason for collapse lost) wherin the spirits produced by some dead troops still contained spears and the assortment. Allegedly, they were lead by an even more fearsome and desperate leader, but their purported scythe and other similarities to sweshaadi folklore point to this entity being either propaganda or some kind of mascot.

It's (probably) generally assumed that scythes and scythe-like imagery falls under the purview of the harvester of life and god of death, Sweshaad.
Legends are fuzzy like that.

"Yes, it's why I'm bringing you. You don't seem that strong, yet you trip into surprising lethality. Besides, I contacted the heavy artillery last night."

Another tremor goes through the building.

 

"Hey I did beat the death squad in a 1 vs 6. Also what's with the tremors?"

"Tremors?"

 

I use arcane data recovery to try and getting any information from my mind about said book.

 

Zeth: "Hrm.. Coming from the wall, that's probably-"

He stops for roughly a second, apparently only now taking in what the Han said.
"Please tell me I just heard that wrong."

To be fair, all I said was that scythes are a common thing in certain types of folklore and that historians chalked a legendary rumor up to that. Nothing more, nothing less.

Matt: "There... goes another scab. Yer - no, I'm slipping into her accent again - you're just now noticing them?"

Library. Accoording to your backstory, burned down in a 'highly unfortunate' and 'suspect' fire. Even if it was still standing, you don't remember a book called "Tome of the Epochs" on a nearby shelf.

 

"The cat does that sometimes"

"If what it says isn't random bullshit then I can say that one of the gods is probably Harstag and if an old women called grand mage is a god she's probably the other. I overheard their conversation a while ago"

 

"... What did they say?"

 

Now what excuse do I use for remembering it perfectly.....Oh I know.
"Luckily I was smart enough to write the whole thing down in my journal I'll read it out for you." I clear my throat and start to read

"By the way I was the thing that the women sensed, also" I turn to Zeth "before you ask I have no idea on how I got there and neither does Harstag, I went to his place during this night again"

 

*headtilt*
"When did this happen?"

Zeth: "Two gods awake, but neither of them summoned you up there? You know, I had an errand I needed to run -"

*tremor*

" - but it can wait. One second." He grabs some kind of gemstone from his pocket. "I'm just testing something."

He drops the stone, and it smashes into a million pieces onto the ground. The entire room becomes so magic saturated that Ling gets the closest to full vision she ever will. Whispers become audible at the edge of everyone's hearing before sharply dropping off. Zeth produces yet another stone, and sucks most of it back in.
(Ling: +2 souls)

"So in the presence of the second greatest dark wizard in recorded history, the only survivor cited ominous whispering. I have no idea what the hell that was, but if you ever hear it again I'd reccomend running as fast as possible in the other direction." His face visibly pales as he says that, and by the end of it even his words have a trembling feel to them.

Matt: "You could do that...the whole time? I'm nearly all the way healed! Who even are you?"

A light tremor goes through the ground around you as you hear a distant boom from behind you.

"Corpse retrieval! Open u-"
*tremor*
"-p. Damn, that was a rougher one."

"I'll be surprised if he gave us his real name. And I have no idea who this dark wizard is, also what's up with all the damn tremors?"
