Like what? I can't read your mind. Well... I can't read your whole mind.

"Miscounted currency, then forgot about the runelocks." Ruby responds. "Which also means that I miscalculated the time I have left by roughly five hours, and... well, regardless of what happened, I botched it."

"I lost mine to become Thirteen, tired of inferiority."
"Cut it out, or you're going back to the other end of the ark."
The digital eyes glare at the human before the wiry braces around the creature's arms wrap around its body, then digitize it and disperse as it warps away.
"I'm sorry about him, probably the worst possible way to be introduced to our crew." The human sighs, getting up and offering you a handshake.
"Cyarnus, primary medic on board the LCAC Undeterred."

 

“Thirteen, robot.”
I joke, shaking his hand.
“But you already knew that.”

 

"Haven't we talked about this many more times? Marriage, visiting Sgavrinn's owner, asking Rema to talk to my parents, those things."

 

Vexa sighs.

"Ruby..." Vexa says, sounding mournful.

 

“I’m sorry, but my impending doom isn’t exactly something I can just forget about.”

I told you, my memory sucks. But hey, Rema should be around somewhere... I mean, we are still in her cave.

“No titles? Just a nomad?” Cyarnus asks, grip noticably firm despite your metal hand.

 

Vexa doesn't reply.

 

“715 hours.” Ruby says quietly, dropping the telepathic link.


With a small purple flash, Iris warps onto Earth and checks her surroundings.

 

Vexa heads through the front of her shop, looking somewhat teary eyed.


She seems to be in the middle of a busy town, people in either casual clothes or business suits walking around. A group of lower-classed looking people resides in a nearby alley, smoking cigarettes and harassing passing women with rude compliments. A man bumps into Iris, nearly spilling his cup of coffee but managing to keep it still.

"Hey, watch where you're going!" The man says, annoyed looking up from his phone momentarily before continuing on.

 

Ruby’s horns are visible behind the counter, Ruby herself presumably sulking underneath.


Iris shrugs, taking flight and looking for the mearest forest.

 

Vexa heads behind the counter, sitting down next to Ruby.


There doesn't seem to be a forest nearby for miles, most of the town branching out onto roads leading to smaller towns and larger cities or motorways.

 

“...You didn’t leave the orichalcum unattended, did you?” She asks quietly.


Iris continues ascending until one is in sight, then dives towards it.

 

"Of course not." Vexa says, before hugging Ruby.


Iris finds a thick forest near to a town quite a ways out from her arrival point. The forest looks healthy, forest guardians likely tending to it.

 

Ruby hugs Vexa back.
“I’m sorry, it’s just... surreal. I’ve been around about as long as your planet, and to know it’s just going to end soon...” She sighs.


She dives towards it, scanning the treetops for guardian souls once she lands.

 

"Well...maybe Mortius will be kind to your soul, if it stays here." Vexa says, holding back tears.


She finds a mix of guardian and human souls, a large camp nearby built into the forest.

 

“I doubt it will, but I hope so.”


Iris approaches the camp on foot, curious.

 

Vexa begins crying, hugging Ruby again, and tighter this time.


It seems to be a children's camp, adult and child guardians and humans working together. There seems to be different activities for guardians to train their powers, however a lot are shared, one group of guardian and human children playing tag.

One of the adult guardians turns to look at Iris, sensing her presence. They mention it to one of the humans, and the pair begin walking toward Iris, smiling.

 

Ruby seems surprised, letting Vexa let it out.
"It'll be okay. You made it far without me, you'll keep going far."


Iris stops, letting them approach.
"I do hope my intrusion isn't too unwelcome." She says.

 

"I'm going to miss having you around. The shop was so lonely before you got here." Vexa says.


"Not at all," The forest guardian says, smiling, "It's always good to see a new face at our camp."

"It's a little surprising to see a fire guardian arrive at our camp however. Don't go causing any forest fires!" The human says in a joyous tone, smiling with her partner.

 

"Could always just hire another employee. I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd love to learn our craft."


Iris shakes her head.
"No, I... how do I put this... I'm not a guardian. I am looking for someone who can help me reach out to Gaia, though. This was the nearest forest I could find."

 

Vexa sighs.

"I suppose." Vexa says, sounding depressed.


"Oh, well we have a meditation area. I'm sure you'd be able to feel some kind of connection to Lady Gaia there." The forest guardian says positively.

"Quite a few of our lil' campers have said they've been spoken to by Gaia herself." The human adds happily.
