"It will come at the sacrifice of some of your existing magic-based systems, but you should notice marginal improvements in most functions."

 

"I understand, I just don't want Mortius knocking on my door." Vexa says worriedly.

There's a knock on the shops door before it opens, a figure in a black hood entering.


The guards seem intrigued.

"Have you made something for her highness, then?" One guard asks.

 

"That won't be too much of a problem. The fire's more useful for flying, and anything else I have is mainly minor utility."

 

Ruby turns to look at the figure.


"Yes. Well, making. I call it Project Dewfall. It's little more than a very fancy costume, but despite that I hope to impress everyone who sees it, including the Queen. It's far from done, in fact I'm only about halfway finished. The goal is to have it ready by the holiday."

"Idhaenna will give you more details once she finishes her business with a star that recently went nova. False information relayed by a mining crew resulted in their deaths, and their families are blaming Idhaenna for their costly mistake."

 

"Mmm."
I nod, understanding.

 

"Most were robots who can be rebuilt and their consciousness reinstated, but their families are still irritated. We could fully automate their jobs, but we know they need work. So picky..." EBB complains. "Anyhow, Idhaenna said she'd meet you inside."

 

"Just, walk through here?"
I gesture to the semi-ethereal wall.

 

"Yes, you'll transition to the ethereal plane. It's a straight path to beta launch from there."

 

"Alright."
I head on into the wall.

 

You pass through and wind up floating. Your jet boots don't seem to work, but acting like you're swimming does propel you forward.
There's many branching tunnels with spirits flying at breakneck speeds in and out, but the main door straight ahead is supposedly your destination.

 

I let myself float straight ahead.

 

It's slow, but it gets you to your destination... which is filled with humans, some sort of furred kobold-esque creature, robots, and seemingly the rest of a mixing pot of races who decided to work for Idhaenna.

Nobody seems to acknowledge your arrival.

 

Am I still ethereal?

 

Not once you pass through the wall that looks exactly the same as what you went through.

 

I do that, then walk around, looking for another exit.

 

The only other exit seems to be a series of gates leading to open space.
...And still, nobody acknowledges your arrival.

 

I wait, looking around for Idhaenna.

 

"That's 2 different people. We're a different mind in one person. So opposite sides can't really attract each other if we're stuck with each other."

 

After ten minutes, a harpy approaches you.
"Alright, sorry that took so long. Sometimes I get sick of mortals. Did EBB tell you why you're here?"

She's still royalty, and you still ran away and lived in the forest. It's like a queen marrying some nomad.

 

"It's alright."
I grin.
"I vaguely know what's going on. Something about magic versus no-magic."
