    I shout to Torl "What we're doing clearly isn't working! We need to try something else! I'm not trying to order you around, but at this rate all that's happening is having our own forces slaughtered by our own relic!"

    I'm not dead! Yay! Sorry for all of that, and thanks everyone for keeping the thread alive. I've been having a lot of real-life issues and mental health difficulties that have basically left a mental taboo on going on these forums, but I'm back now, so there's that. I'll wait a bit before continuing this, need to re-familiarise myself with everything. I was thinking we could just pick things up at the start of what I was going to call Act 2 in a sort of fresh start. I'll just wrap up the existing conflict, forget about all the ways I could have let you screw it up and move on. There'll be a time skip of a couple of uneventful days, which I'll describe in the big 'welcome back, here we go again' post. Unless you particularly want to continue where we left off that is. Thanks!

    Sorry for the wait, GMing really rusty and I've had to bring myself to abandon perfectionism - really should have written down what I had planned, would have been much better I'm sure. I've put together a few walls of text just to wrap up what was going on. Consider it the end of Act 1.

    The crowd of Doguns grows ever thinner, some escaping to the above but most being incinerated by the Eye’s beams. Torl stands steadfast, still yelling at it. Realising the danger he’s in, Chunchunmaru turns and flees, but Josend isn’t going to let the leader of the Doguns die here. With most other targets out of the way or fleeing, she’s a sitting duck. Thinking quickly he dives in at her, knocking her off balance. A beam shoots out of the eye, headed straight towards her chest but he is in front of her, and the deadly beam hits him in the side, burning a hole straight through his torso and cleaving him in two. Finally coming to her senses, Torl pushes his body aside and starts off the stairs and starts to run up, beams picking off the few Doguns left behind her. As the two halves of Joesnd’s body near the floor however, the pearl ring slips clean off his finger, flies through the air and hits the pupil of the Eye just as a beam is produced. There is a blinding flash throughout the cavern and a wave of heat that is uncomfortable even to a Dogun (and that even Dogoj, some way away now, can feel), and then am eerie stillness. The beams have stopped. Looking down at the eye again from the stairs, Chunchunmaru is astonished. The cloudiness that was there before looks black, like smoke, and the entire thing looks darker, almost dead. Around the base is a mass of partially melted metal, the shapes of swords and armour visible, all of which seem to have been attracted to the Eye during its rampage. Magnetism - it was a magic mostly of Dwarven concern, but it seems it was possessed by the holiest artefact of the Doguns. It seems the toroidal pearls so jealousy hoarded in the the Rodoroc Caverns were highly magnetic. Dogun corpses litter the floor and staircase - this was a massacre. And amongst the casualties was the Eye of Garahah, briefly reclaimed but irreparably damaged.
    (NB - H0Y asked to be killed off so he could start a new character, I wouldn’t do that without permission)

    @Bluescreen
    As Dogoj reaches the spot he first met the Brotherhood, he is met by a black-robed Dogun. Immediately, he gives the Gert a similar robe and whispers “Wear, and follow”, leading him silently away, across the ashen landscape and to the southern ridge of mountains that separate the Heights from Ahms. Onwards, into a cave and finally opening out into a large cavern. Shadowy figures surround a large slab of stone used as a table, all wearing long, dark robes that obscure their faces. Dogoj’s Dogun escort puts up his own robes’ hood. A figure steps foward.
    “Welcome, all. This is the largest gathering of our organisation ever - and as such great precautions must be taken, namely, in concealing our identities to each other. Our mission is too important. We must not be discovered even if one of us is captured. Alas, what should have been a celebration of a great victory is somewhat sombre. We failed, thanks to the object known as the Eye of Garahah. I trust one of our number will elaborate.”
    He steps back to his position.
    “Our mistake was in hindsight foolish - we failed to consider the risks of working with such a mysterious artifact, and relying on the behaviour of a species as independent as the Dragon. Spies have confirmed the worst - Torl is alive, the Dogun surface remains well connected, and this will surely be seen as an attack by the Dwarves and the destruction of a sacred stone. War has never been so close. We must carefully consider our next move - trust that plans are in the making.”
    Another steps forward.
    “This is against convention, but we would also like to welcome a new member into our group. One with a contact with Duke Sord of Ahms. He is unique among us - I will not elaborate, but trust that our organisation is more diverse than ever. We are making arrangements for a personal mission for him. If all is well, we will have an ally. Our name will be known, but our faces and purpose will remain concealed. It will soon be the time to partially leave our hiding behind, to make friends outside of the Heights. It has become abundantly clear that we cannot do this alone.”
    A final speaker adds “All, dismissed. You have your orders. Our new member and his designated companion will remain here and await a delivery. This meeting was an unnecessary risk - the longer it endures, the riskier. Expect us to remain more scattered in future.”
    She follows the group out, leaving Dogoj and a single figure left. When everyone else leaves, it pulls off its dark robes, revealing that it is a young, unusually tall female dwarf.
    “So I guess you’re stuck with me for a few days, eh?”

    @BlueSlimerino

    As the cowardly guard runs off in a panic, Glem hears a whisper in his ear - Esmé.
    “What the fuck were you thinking, hiding with no escape route? Do I have to supervise you now? Halster’s got Elimut distracted, we’ll have an opening any moment. Come!”
    With that she grabs him by the arm as he frantically tries to get a grip on Dermit. After directing him to a large, heavily guarded back window and pointing out a small alcove to hide in, she promptly vanishes. And then nothing. The smell of smoke grows stronger. What starts as a faint crackle grows to a roar. There’s a noticeable increase in temperature. The guards look concerned. And just as abruptly as Esmé left, footsteps rush up the hallway and into the alcove. Halster is standing over Glem, badly burned and out of breath. “She’s… even… crazier than I fucking thought. Any… moment now…”, he pants. The guards turn and attack, a meteor spell hits the floor in front of a pillar, and Halster casts some kind of shield around himself, Glem and Dermit. And then it happens. All Glem sees is a glimpse of a barrel through the window, before an enormous explosion shatters most of the wall. Shards of broken glass fly and the shield protecting the three villagers shatters. Most of the nearby guards are dead or incapacitated.
    “Run! Now!”
    Glem does not need to be told twice- he makes a dash for the window and just as they’re about to fall into the valley below, Halster masterfully teleports them across. Glancing back, he sees a whole wing of the palace burned to the ground and a large hole in the back. They certainly made an impression. As they climb haphazardly over the mountain, Halster feels a twinge of guilt - what if Esmé had been killed? That earth powder plan was practically suicide, ingenius as it was. He could have stopped her - but would they then have escaped? As they crawl into the cave Halster had selected to regroup in, most of what happened mere moments before is shrouded in doubt.
