Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Vexa shrugs.

"This place was apparently abandoned. I'm not sure why." Vexa says.

 

"I assume we'll find out soon enough." Ruby says, avoiding touching dirt or rock.

"I mean, whatever works I suppose. If you're doing fine, then clearly the wild isn't as bad as city folk think it is."

 

Vexa nods, heading deeper into the cave.

Part of the cave ahead appears to be collapsed, though a hole between the rubble is just large enough to fit through. Vexa goes first, pushing herself through and kicking up dust as she does.

 

Ruby quickly moves back as she cloaks and sends an illusion of herself through with Vexa to avoid raising suspicion, taking its place once the dust settles.

 

Vexa pats herself off before smiling at Ruby, heading further into the cave. A few small pieces of ore sparkle in the light, though Vexa pays them little mind.

 

Ruby nods at her as she follows, glancing at the ore but not bothering to go out of her way to investigate.

 

The cave seems to get damper and begins to slope down as Vexa progresses, eventually coming to a straight drop down.

"Hm..." Vexa says, idly tossing her fireball down the drop, watching it illuminate how deep the drop is; lighting another one in her hand.

 

Ruby levitates over the drop, looking down with truesight to see how far down it goes for herself.

 

It seems to drop an extremely long way, fatal if fell. Vexa begins levitating using fire from her feet to propel her, slowly falling down the drop.

 

Ruby waits for Vexa to descend and the landing dust to settle, then follows her down. As usual, she sends a clone down to appear normal.

 

It takes Vexa a while, and she's forced to crawl under a chunk of rock at the bottom. However, once she gets up and reignites her fireball, hundreds of sparkling ores are revealed.

 

Ruby's illusions approaches her while her cloaked body stays about halfway up the drop.
"I'm guessing these ores aren't Orichalcum?"

 

"You need to learn to survive. If you can't do that, then I understand why city folk don't like it."

 

"It also helps being a werewolf... we have, like, no predators."

 

Vexa nods.

"I sense we're close though." Vexa says, continuing through the ore-rich cave.

 

"That also..."

 

Ruby's main body takes the place of the clone, and though she keeps a straight face her thoughts are uneasy.

"Being part of a pack probably also helps, though I'd worry about territorial conflicts."

 

"That's how I met Anne. Territorial problems."

 

Vexa's eyes light up when she comes across a blue, shining ore. She dashes toward it, before stopping as soon as the ground begins to shake; breaking loose a few stalactites nearby.

 

Ruby evades falling dust, using truesight to take a peek behind the cave walls.

Fybus snickers, then breaks out laughing.
"You must not have been particularly hungry."
