In all of my time playing wynncraft, I've seen quite a lot of builds. From thunder hybrids, to max health builds, to spell earth builds, to air melee builds or straight up weird builds just to use a specific item. That being said, I've never quite seen earth fire builds. There's tons of combos that are really popular such as water/air or earth/thunder but never earth/fire.

So that brings me to ask, what do you guys think of earth/fire items or builds as a whole? Are the items super strong and it's just not the preferred playstyle, or is it legitimately weak so that it's not as popular as other meta builds. I'd love to hear your thoughts below (:

Notable earth/fire items: Shawl of Gaea, Crusade Sabatons, Rekkr, Greaves of the Veneer, Mantlewalkers

Do note that I'm speaking in reference to end-game play, not any other point of the game. I'm asking in terms of end-game only because end-game is metagamed the hardest for optimal builds and earth/fire has never been one of those builds.

Earth/Fire is viable, but it's pointless for archers as their defense is naturally bad, and their damage is always good, so Earth/Fire is't an archer build. I always focus mages on water no matter what xD. Assassins and warriors are the most likely classes I'd use Earth/Fire on, but often it just depends on what high level weapons I have for them already.

I tried it on a warrior once, the problem I had with going full earth fire was the combination of little mana/intel, lots of -ws and generally melee-based items. Yes I was tanky and melees hit hard, but that doesn’t matter when pretty much every ranged mob in the game can keep you at a distance because of 0 agi, a lot of -ws and little mana.

Earth and fire are mostly based on health, raw melee dam, exploding and health regen stats. Making them useful in tanky builds. But they reduce lot of air and water based stats like walk speed and spell dam. Its most useful for warriors sience their high def and good melee. Making earth and fire useful for keeping yourself alive in long time, but not dealing lot of damg. So its useful in some cases (like in wars) but not for all. Earth and fire is also kinda hard to build around. So making a good build with using those elements is really hard. But in ohter combos elements (like fire and air) that dosent feel like to be problem for making good build.

id say using most earth, fire or earth fire builds is bad for wars just because its so increadibly outclassed by spell based builds. I used an earth/fire Gaia build and it took well over what i would consider good time for wars, which i think is a problem with earth/fire items and builds imo

The main problem with earth-fire is that for a tanky element set it tends to have a lot of -elemental defense, making melee combat and tanking damage hard

The concept of the Earth element itself struggles in the current meta. The only way for melee builds to keep up with spell damage is +tier attack speed, and originally Earth being about "slow melee" conflicts with this, leaving Earth no choice but to also have spell damage to an extent to not get left behind (except those poor Earth items with -spell...), or be used with +tier attack speed if they want to stay relevant in the melee world while dropping the old shtick of Earth being slow melee. I know Stinger exists but that's a pretty big exception if you ask me... At least super slow weapons have stuff like life steal, mana steal, and chain lightning, etc. Even if they're not Earth.

With that in mind, Earth/Fire is even worse about this in my opinion. Earth items have pretty high base damage, but Earth/Fire gets rid of some of that damage for some more defense... But considering the average elemental defense these Earth/Fire items seem to have, all you really get is extra health, and I guess a couple other things as well. Basically Earth/Fire has the same problems as Earth with slow melee, but doesn't even have as much raw damage to make up for it, and Earth already has trouble with that.

I won't deny that there are good Earth/Fire items, but it feels way easier to make and use a good Thunder/Water build than an Earth/Fire build. Currently I think Earth/Fire is probably the overall worst elemental combo.

There are very few of these items that are even currently used.
Graves of venner, mantle walkers, and hive boots are all used generally speaking.

Note, everyone has been mentioning its usefulness in tankness, while I wouldn't like to argue that it isn't tanky, I would like to state that there are simply better alternatives in both tanking and melee damage.

With most earth fire items lacking all around tankness, its more easy to pair them with elements that they don't share benefits with.
    Ie combos like
    Gemini + hive boots.
Meaning a pure earth fire build, is generally not the best at tanking.
And there melee damage can't keep up with the damage given by spells or tier attack speed builds.

I don't know the last time I saw this in a build tbh, the other two I agree with
Uh.. tbh what I've got is that the tankiness you get from adding fire to earth is pointless because it shoots your damage in the face (so if you want tank, just go fire, not earth/fire). Earth/Fire is quite literally a pointless combo outside of like, lifesteal Alka, which gets outclassed by Apoc anyway.
    and stinger i guess counts?
this combo for earth/fire would be ridiculously tight on sp because A) you can't use vaward and B) gemini needs a ridiculous 70 dex or something, I forget the exact number. Point is, earth/fire already does usually need high sp in both stats, adding high dex severely limits your other options.

Honestly, an easy (but annoying to a ton of people) solution to this would be to change the idea behind earth to very strong melee, but sorta glassy (which is what it is) and put fire builds back into the megatank low damage section. The only reason this was screwed up was because of tier stacking, so I guess nerf that somehow.

    I dunno

In theory the two elements should combine to be a tanky hard hitting melee machine, however since it lacks very much in mobility it really ruins that idea. I personally think that one of the biggest parts of the problem stems from the fact that you're immobile and therefore can't reach the enemies to tank/kill them, which is fine for mobs that just walk at you, but for ranged mobs and mobs that teleport around and have more movement speed than you (as well as the "runs when gets hit" AI), it makes it very frustrating to try and kill those mobs.

I think you would have to redefine (to some degree) what the Earth and Fire elements actually contribute to a build in order to make the two work together, because even with more favorable stats these two elements put together wouldn't be as appealing as other element combinations.

GoV tend to be used at earlier levels, not as end game normally.
They make for one of the best tank pants, but aren't generally the best at level 100.
I would put them at 3rd or 4th.

My statement with Gemini had to do with the idea of them really being tanky. That's one of the only ways I can think to make them useful at tanking "Though I realize its skill point tight"

My statement was all over the place because my mom was yelling at me sorry.
The point I was attempting to make was that they don't only fail at doing damage they also aren't generally the best, or even close to it at tanking in general.
They are tanky, but not tanky enough to get even close to justifying its lack of damage.
