O OF , then I'll just edit this bit. I still stand behind what I said. Without a guild, all you lose is the /gchat most of the times. And that's not a big part of the game at all. Seeing as even if I'm in a guild, I'm most likely PMing a buddy. Some times you do meet new people, and make new friends, but that's few and far between.

It's actually a lot more common than you think. Besides, it's not even all guilds have to offer. I get that the warring and politics are not for everyone, but there are people that enjoy those parts and people who don't, and that's perfectly fine. And in the end, even if we don't look at those parts as they doesn't interest everyone, I think the social aspect of guilds alone already makes them worth participating in.

Federation has nothing to do with that kind of stuff. Like I said, individual people do awful shit but that doesn’t make the guild community or alliances or indiviual guilds as a whole toxic.
Ask any respectable guild leader and they’ll tell you that if they ever found out one of their members was pulling shit like that, they’d kick them in an instant

It's worth seeing once in a while, but it gets really boring after a while. Guild Wars suck, and I see no reason to participate in them at all. So the only reason I'd consider participating is for guild chat, but it's very easy to play without it, since you mostly message your buddies unless they're in the same guild as you.
I do agree that you'll get booted in an instant if the guild leaders find out about this. Heck I got booted from SDU for making a couple of toxic jokes.

I just really feel that we need a major guild revamp. It would be better if we had the full community for guilds and not some against it.

These "buddies" that you speak of don't come out of nowhere, and once again, guilds are probably the best place to find them. If you're ignoring your guildmates and messaging other people, then something's probably not right.

Meh... I haven't done guild wars since they came out in the 2014 Winter Update. Besides guilds being broken for over a year, I never felt interested in joining a guild because I knew it would just be a test of who can recapture a territory the longest. To be fair, I'm biased towards multiplayer and prefer to play singleplayer whenever possible for most games. Maybe if they add rewards or add some sort of season or tournament system maybe I would be interested, but I highly doubt I'll ever join a guild again.

    A) I'm not ignoring them, I just don't participate in discussions unless I find it interesting. I'm not antisocial, been actually told to "STFU DONT SPAM SO MUCH" on other servers.
    B) Most of my friends come from CSST/Detlas/LI/Qira

i think the natural nature of guilds is just divisive, while better whole community would be better for most, i think the way they are now leads to competition and something to actually do

I'm not; I'm just saying there's alot of incidents that involve that make it appear guilds are not a respectable nor healthy environment. It just happens my examples are from federation (naturally as they are the largest and most active conglomeration of guilds and players atm), and if you instantly think of that as an attack on your organizations then maybe that's indicative of something.

Regardless, at what point does the actions of some "individuals" become both indicative of a place's actual behaviors? These incidents mind you still occurred, people kicked or not , and it's still coming from people within your communities despite whatever safeguards or policies you have in place, if any. If an environment as you described only had a few bad apples demonstrating such atrocious behavior, why do these incidents keep coming in, and why are these people going undetected or unpunished long enough to be able to do these awful things?

Because it’s the internet. Anonymity exists. I’ve heard of incidents of just as vile stuff happening outside of the guild community, it just doesn’t get as much exposure.
When anonymity exists, there’s literally nothing players can do to figure out who the person making new throwaway discord accounts every day to harass someone is.
But it’s not even remotely a widespread issue, it happened once and as far as I’m aware jp somehow found out who was doing it and punished and/or reported them.

Of course, but in a place with such a competitive environment, vast infrastructure and organization, and often everyday people put into leadership positions, those with their own faults as people, it'd make sense that it would breed toxicity and encourage groupthink moreso than your average disconnected and unorganized Wynn players, and the much larger increase of reports and disturbances coming out of guild affairs seems to show that.

Don't forget as well there will inevitably more incidents that don't get exposure either in guilds, hushed up or too involved within a guild for people externally to care, and given the circumstances I'm willing to bet that kind of stuff happens alot more than people would like to admit.

At the end of the day, the anonymity of the internet obviously sets a bar for how virtuous a person has to be, but it still should never reach the level it has now unless there's major negligence of or even promotion of such behavior.

You really don't have to be that involved in the guild community to realize that incidents like that only happen like once a year at absolute most.
The guild community is a competitive place yes I've stated that, but overall I'd argue it's no more toxic than the rest of Wynncraft.
More competitive and more intense? Yes.
More toxic? No, people are just as awful in guilds as they are elsewhere.

All three events I mentioned were in the spam of maybe 4 months, and I can think of maybe half a dozen more just from the top of my head; these events certainly aren't infrequent whatsoever.

And as well, how does any of the evidence point towards both communities being equally toxic? Terrible stories and reports come out of guilds way more frequently, and even more that we don't even know about. There's absolutely no way from all the evidence collected to show that guilds are even close to being on par with the rest of the wynn community, they outpace them by a long shot.

All of those events you mentioned happened around the same time. It was all related to the same drama.
The thing is that most guild drama doesn’t even originate from guilds.
It starts as regular drama, but the members happen to be in guilds and it ends up being labeled “guild drama” as a result.
If two people from two different guilds start disliking each other for completely random reasons unrelated to guilds themselves, people begin to label it as guild drama and hate entire guilds just because they personally dislike one of that guild’s members.
Guild drama is just normal drama that happens to take place within guilds. And considering most active and relevant Wynncraft players are in guilds, most of their drama ends up being perceived as relating to guilds.
It is not common for drama to occur solely from guilds, it’s almost always something personal, rarely something that originated from guilds themself.

You have to realize what guilds are. At their core, all guilds are is just groups of friends.
Guilds are a community within a community, and each individual guild is its own community too.
If you insult someone that’s in a guild, their friends in that same guild will rush to their defense.
It’s like if you had a group of 5 best friends and then some random drama started between one of your friends and some other dude who had his own friends. Even though it started from random animosity completely unrelated to the 2 friend groups as a whole, it’ll transform in to drama as the two groups rush to their friends’ defense.
Guilds are literally just communities within a community within a community.
And they are rarely the main cause of the drama that occurs, they are just a place where human nature takes over and the drama has opportunities to grow.

I love this post uwu, I agree that guilds are an awesome part of Wynn. It's how I got involved with the community and got to meet a lot of the awesome people talking on this thread.

I love the way guilds gives the opportunity for everyday people, typically in high school or college, to lead a group of others and really forge something out of this game. It's really an amazing thing.

With the guild population the size that is at and from the people coming in, there will never be a point in time where there are no bad apples. You can implement as many rules and regulations as you want and that will still not take away the people that naturally do bad things. This fact combined with the competitive nature of guilds (not helping that the most community is split between pro vs. anti-federation) will result in incidents that you have stated prior. I am not advocating for the events as a good hing and certainly do not promote it but you cannot control the emotions of every single member

Also I have to add guilds are, in my opinion, not just for the enjoyment. Sure, you join for the thrill of warring and enjoying the game and making friends, but at the end of the day, you leave with so much more.

Guilds teaches you negotiation. It teaches you diplomacy. It makes you a team player, because you can't be a successful guild without teamwork. It teaches you patience and persistence. It can give you self-confidence and humility. Your experience in Wynncraft guilds can teach you things about the real world. And since most of us a in our teens or early twenties, it's a great place to learn these lessons while we're young.

When I joined guilds, I expected to just war with a group of friends. I got so much more. I got into arguments and drama, but I learned from it. I was frustrated and angry many times along the way but those are just things I grew from. And most importantly (for me), during my time in Fox, I got the chance to build something I never could've imagined I'd be able to do. The experience I had there gave me a lot of self-confidence and enhanced my skillset.

While it's true guilds can indeed be toxic sometimes, keep in mind the majority of the time it isn't. Most guilds are welcoming places with good people. Yes, there's drama sometimes, but usually it's just one or two bad people that cause it. It doesn't mean the majority of the people in guilds are bad or toxic people. Most people in guilds are very devoted and helpful people. Before I joined a Federation guild myself, I was under the impression that Federation was an extremely toxic place and the guild leaders just were in it for power. But I can assure you that's certainly not the case. Most leaders are friends, almost everyone is nice, and it's a lively place to be. You should join sometime if you disagree.

no relationship to your relationship whatsoever

shortened drastically but i think the main points are still there
guilds teach you conflict resolution blah blah: a pattern of constant toxicity over 3-4 years shows that clearly, people aren't learning and people b*tch about confed and fed being toxic all the time, where's that learning? don't think it takes 3 years to figure out "hey, try being open-minded"
majority of the time guilds aren't toxic: true, but 1: they're certainly toxic much more often than the wynncraft population at large and 2: when things get toxic, they get t o x i c
most people in guilds are very devoted: you're exactly right, and that's why groupthink is such a problem
Guild drama is just normal drama that happens to take place within guilds: "i hate you" does not turn into "i'm going to send death threats to you" naturally (also, who am i talking about? don't know who? wow, maybe that's because there's a pattern of things like this happening)
is just friends defending each other / human nature: hmm, you'd think those friends would have learned about conflict resolution by now, also murder, lying, and pretty much every sin are all human nature but we don't excuse it as such because guess what? that's something we can control
final thought: the original saying goes "a few bad apples ruin the bunch"
also "yeah he killed somebody else but it's human nature so it's cool"

ninja edit: tfw when your best argument in favor of guilds is they were worse 3 years ago
