Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"He's not particularly smart. He's still a young dragon, maybe a whelp even, and is curious about the world."

 

Katie walks up to the painting and looks at it, seeming a little hurt by the image depicted.

 

As with all of the Matriarch's paintings, they seem extremely detailed. A closer look shows clearer unease on both the dragon and the youth, and a mix of anger and smugness on the unmasked guards. There's a slight illusion that seems to be a result of the paint mix she used, though; from a distance, some details are obscured, but when viewed up close are visible - such as strands of hair on the youth's head or small wrinkles on the dragon's hide along with pieces of dirt and sand on their underbelly.

"Someone spoke of a ritual performed by an outcast society, requiring prisoners to survive in the wild with a starving dragon or be butchered with the creature in front of bloodthirsty crowds. I do not speak of right or wrong, I only depict." The Matriarch comments, having glanced at Katie.

"Does he talk, or is he one of those telepathy users for communication?"

 

"That sounds horrible!" Katie says, looking sympathetic for the youth and the dragon.

 

"It's not all misery... the people who told me about this ritual? They're the two in that painting."

 

"They survived?" Katie asks, cheering up.

 

"Yes, and several others. Some, unfortunately, fall to the desire for revenge. That society was strong enough to bring dragon and prisoner to their knees, and the revenge-driven fools are quick to find they are able to do the same to both at once."

 

"Did it used to exist here? I found some skeletons earlier." Katie asks.

 

"No, this is in the domain of the Grandmaster Magus."

 

"None. He's just quiet."

 

"Grandmaster Magus?" Katie asks.

 

"The high god of water, O'rogal."

"So, how do you communicate with him if he doesn't talk? Isn't that a bit one-sided?"

 

"I just do stuff and guess. He lets me know when I get it right."

 

"So, conversations with him are you bombarding him with yes or no questions? That sounds sort of... aggravating. I guess you've just got more patience than I do in that regard."

 

"Not just questions. We play around.. you know..?"

 

"He sounds more like a dog than a dragon, you sure you're not he's just some illusion?"

 

"I'm sure he is not."

 

"Oh! I think we're going to fight him!" Katie says happily.

 

"You can't be serious... none of your friends would stand a chance. You can't fight him with magic, he'd win."

"I still think he's a dog. You're making him sound like a dog."

 

"We could fight him with physical force!" Katie says confidently.
