You see one with a drawing of a humanoid figure with wings and a squid-like head; one paper with scrawled notes in a strange code (no you can't decipher it); and some that seem to be torn pages from books.

 

What check would it be to try to decipher it?

I open the book of shadows and write the code in it.
Writing being one way to communicate with Big Guy, I add ''Any idea what this means?'' in celestial after the code

 

The book does a Tom Riddle's Diary and absorbs the ink, then spelling out:

I write back to him in celestial ''You can bring the code back right? it might be useful''
