    Rng isn't needed at all, in fact, most games suffer more then they benefit from it.
    Rng tends to be a risky business as if it isn't done right, it's better that you don't have it at all.
    Don't get me wrong there is good Rng, in fact, most versions of dnd were based around the idea of random dice rolls to decide your effectiveness in actions.
    The key to good Rng is making it feel placed, and not totally random, setting certain limits, or guarantees.

    What sucks is when you make the player feel as if there being rewarded or punished based on random whims.

    Now let's talk about MMOs needing Rng, What exactly are you saying an MMO needs it for? I can't think of anything at all.
    Mobs can have set spawns, in fact, its almost always better than they feel strategically placed vs at random because enemies have tactics "normally"
    Loot systems can be done without rng, just have set items drop off of certain bosses, mobs, dungeons, or maybe crafted in certain ways.
    You can have static damages, though its boring. Spawns can be set like they already are. losses for the dying can be set in stone.
    Like I can't think of anything that needs to be based on Rng, I can think of somethings that are better because of it, however, none of it is needed.

    Ps, studies show that people prefer systems that guarantee gain, something that's stable and reliable.
    The only reason people like a chance in anything at all is because it takes advantage of our brain chemistry in making us feel rewarded, you know, the same thing drugs do.

    Maybe something like randomized dungeon mechanics? like, you need to jump on a certain set of blocks, but the blocks you need to jump on are randomized?

    That’s probably worse since due to lag you’ll have to make a leap of faith. There’s a reason why platformer don’t have randomized platforms. That’ll probably be way too complicated to do anyway.
