    Heyyo it’s a me, Bailwolf.
Forth failed roleplay in you think I might learn some stuff.
Alright, I got a magic system idea and a world idea that I wanted to see if people are interested in before I finish developing the world. Be prepared for a long read.

    Complicated Magic system:
Magic in this world is based on the Crell, a race of purely magic creatures that only take physical form when bonded to a magic user(for simplicity I’ll use the word mage in this thread but I might change the name later) or if a Crell is rouge, which I’ll explain later. Crell are usually hundreds of years old but it is possible to have a young Crell, just very rare. Also when bonding to a new mage after the death of the last bonded mage, Crell usually choose to purge their memories of their last mage, keeping only the knowledge of magic they’ve gained, however some don’t. In terms of character making this means that your Crell is like a second character you can control and write, specifically things like appearance, personality, magical abilities, where they came from, name(duh), stuff like that.
Let’s talk application of magic. All mages have a type of magic they naturally are stronger at, referred to as a specialty, and a casting type they are better at. Magic types include all the basic elemental stuff, but I encourage use of weirder things, which are classified as arcane magic. Arcane magic can be any and everything, so if you plan on using it I would encourage PMing me so we can discuss what you would like. The other magic type is magical weapons, usually taking the form of your Crell becoming a weapon, and casting magic through the weapon.
Casting types include four basic types, with allowance for other, stranger types. Basic types are:

1: Spellcasting, words or phrases used to cast magic, there is a magic language, but once you or your Crell know a spell, you can assign your own “call words” to spells, making them quicker to cast, also most basic spells like say a fireball, can be modified by one or two words at a time for example, mega fireball would be larger, speedy fireball would be faster moving, and mega speedy fireball would be a mixture between them. In terms of fighting, simple spells can be cast almost whenever you want, but larger spells might require some planning, also depending on the spell and the opponent the opponent may or may not have time to react.

2: Hand or body movements to cast magic, may look like martial arts or dancing, but doesn’t have to.

    3: Magical weapons

4: Potions, or physical objects with magical properties, potion casting doesn’t need to be a liquid brew, but is most commonly found in that form.

Of course if you have an idea for a different casting type than please discuss it with me.

Onto the world, the time period and technology are basically medieval times, with some upgraded building techniques and transportation do to mages, the center of this roleplay will be the Igrathal School of Magic, one of if not the most prestigious magic schools in the world. Most people have some magic ability but only about 10% of the population have enough to become mages. Most mages receive their Crell through the government program called the Bonding Initiative, it puts young mages through tests to determine the best fit Crell for them, of course there are other ways to get a Crell, such as taming a rouge Crell(a Crell in an unstable state causing them to release massive amounts of magic without control, often new magic types are born this way), or other more sinister means. It would be a better roleplay if most people played as students, but having a few people play as other characters would make it quite fun. A main focus of the roleplay will be fighting magical creatures.

Alright let me know if you’re interested, and ask me any questions you may have.

must they be words? or can I assign actions?
Can one have multiple Crells? >.>

    In order

You can cast magic by a motion, hand sign, or series of motions, kinda looks like martial arts. Not sure what you mean

Kinda like familiars but they possess human level or above intelligence, and can take human form, which is usually not a feature of familiars.

Assigning actions to spells would be movement casting.

Uhm, possibly, not like 50 but maybe two or three in rare cases. Haven’t thought about that one.

Like the sentece there is a new paragraph and starts with a lowercase letter. So I easn't sure if that wad meant to be there. It also seems to be an incomplete phrase to me...
    icic.
    Humanoid familiers?
Or can I have a wolf?
    Or a plant even?
Hell, what about a literal ball of light?
    :o
What about assigning it to thoughts?
    okie doki! :D
I don't know Persona enough to make a reference

Alright I’ll fix some grammar there.

The Crell can appear however it wants, but it’s usually socially appropriate for Crell to appear human unless when in battle or in the school, so all of those appearances are possible.

That would be a non basic casting type, but definitely possible.

The channeling of power works both ways, what I should say is the Crell magnifies the mages natural magic.

    icic.
Are there situations where they don't have a human form? EX. new crell or curses or a really bad crell? (bad in terms of power)
What about setting them to event?
EX. if I punch (action casting) cast Burning Hand
Ex. if I get hit, cast Minor Healing
So does that mean there are situations where someone has no Crell?

Just choose a mythological figure or an figure from history your character relates to and make it proficient in fire, ice, wind, or lightning.

I'm 100% making my Crell a Persona reference.

I think it could be cool. Don’t really like heavy magic much but if it’s well-executed it works. Is there a drawback to the magic at all?

Un-Bonded Crell don’t have physical form.
Weak Crell are basically non existent, but they wouldn’t have physical form. Don’t know what you mean by curses.

    Sure

Usually mages will go through government regulated bonding at 9-10 years old, younger than that they wouldn’t have a Crell unless they tamed a rouge Crell.

Are there just Crells floating all around us then? We just can't see them?
What if your Crell dies... (Can they die?)

Short answer is no, long answer is when the relationship between mages and Crell was first established, there were locations and buildings designated to the Crell so that new mages bonding with a Crell wouldn’t have to go and look to hard. Also Crell have their own sort of “dimension” they can exist in, which is how they interact with each other when they aren’t bonded.

Crell cannot die, at least not in the normal sense of the word. Some of the oldest Crell that never purged their memory went crazy, and were sealed away by the other Crell, but they are still technically alive, just not conscious or able to do anything.

Would it be possible to have a Crell's ability be that you can access this dimension once every so often, and be able to use the Crell's from there? (of course with some restraints)
So we can't hurt the crells?
    EX. throwing spells?
But can we seal them ourselves? >.>

I’m trying to make the magic system include everything, so I’m going to say yes, however the Crell with that ability would be specialized to telepathic and telekinetic abilities, since you would basically leave your body and exist only as your mind. That said I’m assuming use the Crell means convincing other Crell to give you power or use power in your favor. If this becomes a RP I’m planning on telling people to have 2 or 3 spells or abilities that would be considered “ultimate” or a win-or-lose idea, where it will either win the fight or exhauste you to the point where you can’t fight after you use it.

It requires a rather substantial amount of Crell working together to create a seal, so the best one or two might do is exhaust the enemy. That said you won’t really be fighting Crell

Ohhhh, so final boss move. :o
MY thought train was that: instead of fighting the person, why don't I be a jerk and kill off their Crell, killing the majority f their power. >.<
Could a valid strat be to disregard magic and learn martial arts and have your Crell tie down their crell while you overpower the other person who can't use much magic due to their Crell being restrained? >.>
How common is this actually? :/
