No time has actually passed since you started asking questions, this is all what Rin knows already. This is what was going on:

You lift her from the library floor and pull her over your shoulder. The door you carefully close behind you. You wouldn't know Esmé was following you - you just have to trust her as you walk towards the centre of the corridor and take the spiral staircase down. Your shoulders and back are starting to ache from carrying the maid as you reach the bottom and see Uliuc, the semi-friendly teacher, coming towards you.
"Glem! How good to see you. I thought I'd head up to the library. Never could stand meetings. I guess your continued presence has something to do with your 'plans' - hang on - Oh my! - forgive me, eyesight's not what it was - who's that you're carrying?"

Well, the remains of this staircase still exist in the main game. It's the jump-pad way up to the Upper Heights, that should give you an idea. And as to the Eye, some of them noticed it but they were mostly focused on getting away from the dragon and not being left behind.

He sighs. "Never expected the truth anyway." He walks past you and up the stairs, briefly looking down at his leg with an expression of confusion before continuing up and out of sight. Continuing down the main hallway, you see it eerily empty. There would normally be guards here, yet the alarm bell has not gone off and nobody is hear - you feel a great sense of unease. You don't think anyone would hear you if you asked Esmé about it, but you wonder if it could be too risky.

You continue down the hallway towards the dungeons. The top of the staircase door is ajar, torches lighting the way towards two motionless guards outside the door at the bottom.

You charge forwards towards the staircase alongside your invisible allies, under Ozoths legs and towards the mouth of the cave, catching her completely off-guard. She turns around, pokes her head out of the cave and inhales deeply. You're outside the main radius of her fire but you're certainly not safe, and a lot of the Brotherhood, including the Villager are in danger - yet nobody speaks. You could probably swerve to the side slightly and avoid it, but to be entirely sure you'd have to turn sharply away and abandon the charge.

 

I'll put the maid down and hold moy hand at thr swords as I walk down

 

As you start to set the maid down you feel the sharp prod of a finger on your leg. It seems Esmé does not approve.
