Let's Stop Stupid Advertising Accounts Together!

Lately, I have been noticing that a lot of advertising and spam accounts have come to the forums and I reported 3 of them in the last week! so here's a quick guide on how to report a spammer:




Option 1:

You can go to discord and ping the mods about the ad in a similar fashion to this:


Don't forget to remove the link after it has been removed so people won't be "curious" and click on it.





Option 2:

If you don't have a discord account you can alert the mods using the forums!

Firstly go to the forum's front page and check for the currently online mods (the box on the right)

Example:


Click on their picture to get their name, After that go to the spam thread and type a message like this:


The moderators will take care of it from there






Option 3:

If options 1 and 2 didn't work for you try to make a conversation with the mods by going to the home page of the forums and finding the aforementioned moderator box on the right.
Example:


After you found that click their profile picture and then click start a conversation:


And then you can send them something like this and click on the "Start a conversation" button:







Option 4:

Report them through the thread by clicking the report button:


And add a reason like this:

This seems awfully redundant.
What's wrong with only reporting?
Furthermore, why is "reporting", which is the simplest thing you could do, last?

They need to add a mechanism that detects the bots. For example, if it detects some things, such as ”is title a link”, then it should auto-remove it and ban the account. I have no idea what desparate idiots are trying to sell fake body products in a forum based on a mature minecraft server. But they need to be stopped.

 

Isn't reporting the thread/user the best option?

 

bro, its like bringing an SMG to a bar fight, just report the bot lmao instead of constantly annoying the mods.

Well, it won't be that hard... they can just use something like (PHP code):

But the real problem is is titles like "Join" that post the link in the content

 

Discord is an entire other application. All you need to do for reporting is click the report button, write "bot post" as the reason, and moderators will receive a message and resolve the issue immediately. I've done this at least twenty times before; there's not much point to more convoluted methods.

 

Let's just restrict new members from posting for 5 to 15 minutes right after they register. If the member is legitimate they will probably wait, if it's a bot I doubt if it will wait for 15 minutes

 

Honestly there are much, Much more simple ways of stopping bots from posting stuff, Or even registering in the first place...
If they haven't implemented those yet, I'm pretty sure they won't be able to implement your idea either.

 

Spammers put spaces and other things in the link and tell you to remove them to bypass that system. It already doesnt allow links in titles

Reply to the thread with a copypasta.

 

Option 6: Start spamming the spam bot with your own spam

 

I have thought about adding a hidden recaptcha in the register button. However, judging from a spam account name I've seen, they may be not bots.
