I like to reward players who roll Nat 20:s on initiative with an automatic hit. Is that okay?

You don't have to, the ship has a lot of HP

 

What do you mean by an automatic hit? Also, do you have any special punishments on Natural 1s?

 

I doubt that you can use cure wounds on a ship, or that a ship can take a long rest

 

I mean can someone with a sailor background heal a ship even? Either way ny character isnt gonna fix the ship

 

That you automatically hit the target of your first attack. Probably, but a PC has yet to get one.

A ship can be repaired when it's out of the water.

 

But it would cost money

 

Two questions:

1. What qualifies as a hit? Can I make something auto-fail a saving throw?
2. What are your punishments like? I personally hate critical failures with the burning hatred of a thousand suns, for several reasons.

 

Repairing 1 hit point costs 1 day of work and 20gp

 

I'm not shattering the ship that's too expensive
