“Are storms like this frequent?”

Ted manages to predict which way the terrier dodges, flipping him over with his snout.

 

"For the season, yes." The earth guardian says.

 

“It’s fine, memories are fuzzy.”

“How long is the season?”

 

"Around three or four months, usually." The earth guardian says.

 

"Yeah, yeah. Sorry."

 

The Terrier yelps as he’s flipped, drawing some attention from people and other dogs, before the Terrier gets up again and starts panting.

 

“Oh... what’s the lightning rod for?”

“You don’t remember when you had to do it, do you?”

Ted sniffs the other dog again, tail practically a blur.

 

"The air and storm guardians use it, it helps them 'recharge'." The earth guardian explains.

 

He spells a bit more like dirt now.
“Jones! C’mere!”
A lady sitting down near Voidfiller calls over the Terrier, who looks to her before running over.

 

Ted also trots over, still smelling the terrier for general whereabouts.

"Are they, like, living things that need electricity?"

 

"Do what?"

 

"Not especially, but they draw their powers from air and energy. It's why they're immune to the effects of electricity. No electric chair could kill an air guardian, much less a storm guardian. It'd be a nice experience for them even." The earth guardian says.

 

"You okay, Jones?"
The lady uses both hands to hold the Terrier's head while scratching it, then she looks to Ted.
"Oh, and you made a new friend."

 

“The same thing, when your beast form merged with a child.”

Ted licks the terrier, almost tipping them over.

“Electric chair? Why would someone make a chair for killing people when weapons are everywhere?”

 

"Merge? Wait.. is that the voice in my head? But our father was part werwolf, so weren't we a werewolf when we were born?"

 

He keeps his balance, Ted licking some dirt off of him.
"And what's your name?"
The lady asks Ted as she sticks out a hand to pet him, not expecting an answer.
