She contorts her face and voice again as you walk back.
"I have faith in Glem. He can teleport and vanish, right?"

Well, the 'thief' is facing towards you, walking backwards while she holds the far end of the Eye, but she doesn't seem to have noticed you. There's a longer route behind some rocks, and you could try to use the teleport and vanish spells.

Esmé smiles. "He's just being humble. Even masters make mistakes sometimes, and Elimut seemed to see mastery in him."

He takes a right turn into a dark side street while Esmé continues down the main road.

"I'm a more practical sort of magic user - I try to avoid combat. I'm pretty good at healing, vanishing and movement spells. So, care to fill me in on what's going on with Dermit and Elimut? I've been stuck in that shithole that used to be Ahms since the damn Cataclysms began, I didn't get much news."

@Kylin&Kyubi He seems to be giving an impassioned rant to the other delegates. You only hear snippets over the rest of the room - something about an election, the Wood Elves, Doushoins and the Forgery.

You survey your spell-based options. The vanish spell has the flaw of being very loud when not performed well, instantly drawing attention. However, it would still be effective in concealing where you are after using it. Teleportation would allow you to reach them faster. A combination of the two could work, but maintaining a vanish while casting another spell is a bit technical and would use up almost all of your mana.

 

"Elimut apparently bribed Dermit to kill Togak, and when Dermit tried he got stopped and thrown into the dungeon. Dermit has been tortured pretty badly"

It depends what your doing. It's fastest when your asleep or resting, but you can usually expect it to take about half an hour (basically, humans have an extremely low mana capacity available for spellcasting, which is why it appears much slower for you). You really don't want to run out if you think you might need another spell soon.

Given your character's large mana pool, it would take you about an hour to fully recover your mana.

"Shit. Why Dermit? I won't pretend I know Elimut - I doubt anybody actually does, but he'd only pull some shit like that if he had something to gain from it."

He smiles. "Hiding behind rocks is a bit crude for us. As you'll see. Finesse is essential."
He takes a half-empty bottle of some silvery liquid from his cloak.
"Here - take a sip of this."
