I stay there and watch him

 

"I'd be honored, however I don't think I am qualified for the job." I say, trying to stiffle the surprise again.

 

Togak smiles. "On the contrary, you are the only person qualified for the job. Coalition law states that no delegate can represent more than their own delegation. We have no impartial Coalition citizens besides yourself. Please"

She laughs harder "And how did you manage that!?"

The applause dies down. Torl starts speaking.
"Welcome, Manifis!"
There's a cheer.
"For the last two years I have led our nation, and in that time we achieved more than even I had hoped. For proof, look around you! And there is more yet that we can do - to rise to our full potential, regardless of what the Provincialists would say about it! One of the people doing this work, Derntok - just two days ago a simple shop assistant in Grinefez - is here with us today! Before we go any further, I will let her tell the story.
She steps up to the platform and clears her throat.

Hels and Elimut walk into the hall and close the door, leaving you alone with Togak. He smiles at you.
"Please do not be alarmed. I have no intention of harming you. I only wish to talk."

Elimut remains silent and leads you into the hall and closes the door behind him, directing you to a chair with a Coalition banner draped over it, while he sits at the head of the table, looking slightly annoyed. There's excited conversation amongst the others. Abbot Tranki stares at you. "Do I know you?"

Her companion stares disapprovingly as she laughs hysterically at you. It takes her a few seconds to recover.
"Well, I suppose I've got to let you in then," she says. "Uh, what is your name and business, standard questions, yada yada?"

As the crowd cheers, she starts speaking.
"Since the days of Remikas, our Nation has peacefully coexisted with our Dwarven and Villager neighbours. Lately, due to reprehensible actions on both sides, this coexistence has been stretched to a breaking point. These troubled times bring many opportunities, but also many responsibilities and challenges. No matter how much you may deny it, none of you want war."
The atmosphere of excitement quickly dissipates into an uncomfortable silence. Torl stirs disapprovingly.
"Two days ago, dwarves infiltrated our cities in an attack coordinated by unknown forces. It was amongst this tragedy that I made the biggest mistake of my life. Madam Juntabi of Grinefez Academy was kidnapped and held in Rodoroc prison. I joined one of her students in a mission to rescue her. We set out into Dwarven territory, broke into Rodoroc via the Ring Pearl Springs, and managed to break into the prison. It was here when we realised the magnitude of our mistake. The morning bell rang, guards charged the basement. I convinced my companion to cast a meteor. It destroyed the entire prison, killing about eighty dwarves. The two of us escaped via the surface and Juntabi took a scroll to Cinfras. She was likely recaptured there. This entire ordeal was itself far more deadly than any of the isolated attacks that provoked it. It could easily have provoked a disastrous war in which there would be no winners, and for that we are sorry. But it didn't, and that gives us a unique opportunity to learn from our mistakes."
A single Dogun in the crowd starts booing, and quickly the sound envelopes the entire rally. There's an audible shout of "Fucking provincialist!", and a rock hits Bantira/Derntok in the face. Several others copy. She remains on the stage with her hands up. "Let me speak!", she shouts at them.

As far as you can remember, there were no Doguns present when you were in Cinfras, although those Dwarven scrolls were a bit suspicious...

"Seems in order, you may enter the city."
You climb the staircase and pass into the walls of Cinfras. Esmé is nowhere to be seen, and you don't know where she would have gone. You survey the surroundings. There are guards by the gate you could ask, though whether it's a good idea given what Dermit said about this Halster Kirt person is unclear. The market is visible in the distance, stalls being set up, and you can see an inn, the Bank and the clothing shop you bought your robes in.

 

I listen and observe what happens

 

Do I have any emeralds?

 

"Me and my partner were here as guards of Doushoins in the events of yesterday." I sit on the table, trying not to get too comfortable.

 

I grimace
I want to help her, but there's nothing I can do except hope that her words can reach the crowd. (ooc we're behind the stage right)

 

Yes you do. I should really be keeping a record of how many, but you definitely have some.

On the table? Or do you mean at the table?
"And what are you doing here now? This looks like one of Togak's ideas. It won't affect the outcome of anything, it just looks like a decent gesture."

A rock hits her hand and she continues shouting over the crowd.
"Our nation cannot stand alone against the entire province. If we are to prevail, we must do it not through war, but through diplomacy. A deal must be brokered with the dwarves. They have no use of the surface any more, and Upper Rodoroc can be designated a no-go zone out of respect for the fallen. In return, we share control of the Gate again and offer our protection from the Dragons. The dragons - we have gained their trust before, we can do it again. A deal can be made with Ozoth, and we offer the dragons in Ahms sanctuary in the Upper Heights again. Speaking of Ahms, good relations with the Villagers are necessary as well. It is only a matter of time before Elimut is High King, and he will not take kindly to aggression. We must send aid to the struggling and isolated communities decimated by the Fracture. We must establish trade relations through the Canyon of Bantisu. We must form an alliance that will last."
She seems to have adjusted to the rocks now, barely wincing as they hit, although the pain is certainly audible in her voice. Torl seems slightly more interested.
"And for those of you who believe war is inevitable - that Rogdon will strike first if we show any sign of weakness - diplomacy with Villagers and dragons is all the more important. The most valuable asset in any war is an ally. If we can convince Elimut to intervene on our behalf - I doubt Brian III is capable of any courage - it could make our victory so much easier and less costly in terms of Dogun lives. Creating a strong Southern ally in Ahms could be just as useful - another front could only help."
The booing and rock-throwing seems to die down a little.
"But it would be a tragedy were it ever to come to that. We must do all we can to establish peace - for our own benefit if not for everyone's."
The rocks and boos resurface as she jumps off of the back of the stage and Torl steps back to the centre, trying to calm the crowd down. The speaker runs towards Chunchunmaru arms outstretched, her face and body badly bruised.

 

I'll go to the clothes shop

I look around for stuff.
