D&d --- Identity

"Hmm. Would... this is a bit of a hard request to make, but would you allow me to enter your thoughts and take that image from your mind? You may be one of the only witnesses to get a good look at this... thing, whatever it is."

 

"I was with Freddy and Emma. Freddy said he recognized the place. The exit gates are sealed if there's a problem. Sounds to me like a safety problem. Anyway, he said that there were machines to open the gates. Whatever was hunting us tried to stop us from using those machines I think. Emma was quiet through the whole thing."

"Better now."

 

“That’s good.”
I nod, and crack a smile.
“How do you, ah, know the other victims?”

 

Mechanic: "Sure, I guess?"

Ok.

 

"Alright, and who are Freddy and Emma to be percise?"

 

"Hello. You are Martha, correct?"

I use Read Moods. One-word desciption of her mood, please.

 

"Thank you. This will feel odd, but please do not resist. It will not harm you."

I cast Detect Thoughts from my Medallion, and focus my probe on her. I assume she'll choose to fail the save.

"Now, simply recall what you saw during that attack."

 

Forward: "I don't. I'd never met Martha or Emily before the hospital, and same goes for the two guys at the church with the weird names. The magician, and the guy with the hood."

"Freddy is the lawyer, kept going on how he was gonna save us. Emma is the gardner."

Coordinator: "Yes"

She looks back to the memory. What exactly do you see with this?

 

“How many do you know of that, ah, died in your events?”

 

"You initially learn what is on its mind in that moment. As an action, you can either shift your attention to another creature's thoughts or attempt to probe deeper into the same creature's mind. If you probe deeper, the target must make a Wisdom saving throw. If it fails, you gain insight into its reasoning, its emotional state, and some long-term worry. If it succeeds, the spell ends."

I feel like this would probably allow me to see/experience a memory that someone is recalling. I'm not precisely sure, but I'm hoping you're willing to go with it because otherwise I kind of blew a charge for no reason.

"Alright. Now, what happened in the Mansion?"

 

He puffs his cheeks and blows out air. "No clue"

"Same deal with the machines. It was a maze of rooms, with machines. It was really foggy, even inside the building. There were also chairs around, with fireworks on them. Once again, we used machines to open the gates by the stairs. Once downstairs, the attacks stopped."

Coordinator: "My name is Martha. I was a military coordinator, and worked at the old Arms factory."

Ok, so it plays out like a movie in your head. But, you also get the thoughts, the 'reasoning' behind the actions.

"You" are running, trying to get to a machine. The machine opens the door. But you need to get there in time. As you run, you see a figure in the fog to your left. It's a large figure, much larger than yourself. On the ground in front of it is another person. You want to help the person, but it's too late. The figure lifts an object above it's head, and the person raises an arm and yells. "PLEASE! NO!". The bat-like object comes down, you hear a *CRUNCH* and the spray of blood as the memory ends.

"Alright, Martha. I heard from another witness that you were at the attack at the hospital, correct? Were you in any other attacks?"

Truth

The game is fairly new, and a lot of games use that formula. It's currently the #2 game in terms of recent downloads on the app store, behind PUBG Mobile. But, it's not engines here, they are called "cipher machines". If your really do know the game, don't spoil anything.
