He looks uncomfortable. "Uh, it... look, I think you heard me try to talk to him? In any case, the Palace."

Uh, how closely have you been following BlueSlimerino's thread? It's totally within character. And it's necessary for character development later...

The guard leads on, locking the door behind him. You take a long route down staircases and through hallways and over ramparts. Many people stare at Esmé, some whistle at her and others try to make moves. She completely ignores them all. You eventually reach the dungeons, and hear screams of pain from one of the cells. "What are you going to say to him?, Esmé asks.

 

I know about it, reading basically everyone's. Just like, why not me.

"Why don't you just run away from Elimut if he's so bad? I'm sure there's space in Efilim for everyone." Sigh and say that.

 

"Don't know just came here to piss him off"

 

If you're going anywhere, I just follow behind you.

 

"He- he doesn't usually give us orders. We answer to the Captain of the Guard above all else. But Royal orders are valid unless contradicted by the Captain so... it's probably why Elimut's doing this. Can't stand to have Cinfras guarded by people not directly under the Royal thumb."

"Why does he want us? He didn't seem very friendly when we last met, and I'm sure he wants something more than talk to us." Close my face and rub my temple.

 

"No idea. But with Elimut, there's always a reason. Shall we get going? I - it's probably best not to make an enemy of him."

 

"There is no reason for me to make him my enemy, but I'm sure he has something on his mind about doing that to us." Clear my throat and look out the window, deep in thoughts.

 

”Mayble. Who is she?”

She stares into your eyes.
"Everything is performance. Everything we do and say has a purpose. We can script anything - and make it all the more effective at whatever purpose we require."
The guard taps a solid iron door. "This is Dermit. Hang on-" He reaches into his coat and pulls out a chain of rusty keys, and slots it into the keyhole. "I warn you, he's probably in a bad way. Interrogations around here are well, brutal would be an understatement." Esmé suddenly looks worried.
"Ready", the guard says, turning the key.

"She's the President. Got in by "seizing the opportunity of the Cataclysms" and being "tough on the Dwarves." Most up here love her- she's the whole reason this place is what it is."

"The Palace. I've told you about five fucking times. You're going to the summit. Personally can't believe it's still happening. Don't we have bigger things to worry about now than some petty border disputes?" The other guards nod in agreement.

 

"And why do we need to attend the summit? There is no more high delegate." Tell them, still looking at Rin's cheek and brainstorming about it.

 

"Nothing new from what I can tell, im ready"

"Look, they don't explain everything to us." He puts on a silly sing-song voice. "Oh, guard, could you please fetch Mr Nosey Hippy and Mrs Grumpy Youngelf, for a concert in the South Wing in the Royal Palace in which they will be playing second fiddle. The conductor's mother's maiden name is Vertor."

 

"I can clearly see why they didn't explain it to you."
I turn to Hels.
"Let's go."
