"I've had her do that." Katie says, trying to cheer herself up a little.

 

Fable gives Katie some space.
“Well, nice talking to you, I guess. I was going to offer myself up to you, seeing as I’m just sitting around here... but you’ve already got a heirloom.”

 

"Huh?" Katie asks, surprised.

 

“I’m a weapon. I don’t have a wielder, and you’ve stood up against Xlentia before. Bold enough for me to care, strong enough not to run from me. And, of course, cowering in fear is always somewhat endearing.” She shrugs. “However... no, you seem light on friends who’d use me. Even you don’t seem like one for a slugfest.”

 

"Slugfest?" Katie asks, cringing.

 

"Gauntlets."

 

"Isn't it kind of...mean to consider yourself nothing more than a weapon? Aj has a robot like you and she considers herself a person." Katie says.

 

"It doesn't matter what we consider ourselves, only to our friends. Besides, I was made as a weapon, taught to be nothing more. Obviously I ignored that because it was crap, but that doesn't change that I'm a weapon."

 

"Well...my trident was made for stabbing things, but I can also use it to cook the stabbed things over a fire." Katie says.

 

"And I could be an absurd doorstop or an inefficient paperweight. You could use your trident as a rake, it doesn't change that it's a weapon."

 

"Yes, but it doesn't mean it can't be a weapon." Katie says positively.

 

"You've lost me." Fable says flatly. "And knowing me, it's best not to try to get me to understand."

 

"You don't have to be a weapon. You can use your tools for good!" Katie says happily.

 

"I don't really care what your definition of good is, but if it's got anything to do with adventure and exploration of new places, I'd love to see what tries to clean my clock. The ol' one-two is stereotypical, but I'm not complaining with something that's stood the test of time."

 

Katie laughs lightly, amused.

"What sort of fighting styles do you know?" Katie asks.

 

“Oh gods, you mortals named those things too?” Fable asks, seeming disgusted.

 

"Yeah! There's stuff like Karate." Katie says, throwing a few punches and kicks into the air that don't look anything like what Karate would imply.

 

“Well, I dunno what my style’s called.” Fable says, taking on a stance before jabbing once, which releases a focused shockwave that rips through the air a short ways.
“Watching my opponents turn into puddles of flesh and blood is a bit of a turn-off, though.”

 

Katie seems a little intimidated.

"That's what Shadows like to do too." Katie says.

 

“They’re demons, I’m just trying to find a decent sparring partner.” She shrugs.
