"I heard there was a huge battle here with gods from my realm." Katie says.

 

"I wouldn't call it huge. It lasted all of five minutes, maybe ten." Fable shrugs.

His lance manages to slow you from pulling him in, getting stuck like a dog trying to pull a large stick through a narrow opening.

They open the gate.
"Try not to wake anyone."

 

"Ha. Right."

 

The guard gives you a strange look before shrugging it off and looking off into the distance.

 

Are his legs still through the portal?

 

Bardock ignores them and just heads inside.

 

"Well, it caused this at least." Katie says, looking around.

 

"Doesn't make it huge, just makes it a disaster. That death god of yours might've iced this place, though."

Once inside, you see an annoyingly familiar ferret running around, seeming to manage two tour groups at once. Unfortunately, he also seems to have noticed you and looks at you several dozen times.

Yes, he is ready to be cut in half.

 

Bardock gives a heads up and waves.
"Yo."

 

Katie spends a moment thinking.

"Mortius?" Katie asks.

 

“I don’t care what you call him. The damage is done - the flames may have purged those who could defend themselves, but he cleansed those who couldn’t.”


A gift box shows up near the shadow palace gates with a note attached.
“Try not to spend your birthday dead. Here’s a gift, I’ll leave it to you to figure out what it does.”

They nod, still runnin back and forth before finally coming over to you.
“You’re back! Sorry, I’m a bit busy at the moment.”

 

"I won't keep you busy then. Have you seen my dragon friend perhaps?"

 

Katie looks down, seeming a bit guilty.


A servant exits the palace and retrieves the gift, running back inside with it.

Weak and still not fully healed, I slowly open the box with delicate fingers.

 

Fable puts a cold, metal hand on Katie’s shoulder.
“Don’t sweat it. If they aren’t rewriting fate, they aren’t escaping it.”


There’s a blue cube with a note beside it in the box.
“Hey, I figure I’d say hi. Also figure I’d tell you that you’re not going to get to talk to me this year, so enjoy this note. Yeah, this is Eric. Don’t ask what the cube is, but it’s necessary and you seem to need all the help you can get. Well... you can ask, it just won’t help you any.
PS: Alice is dead and Tenebrae let her dissolve into nothingness, and Mortius desecrated Gaia’s palace. Now godslayers are running around, and there’s nothing stopping them from roaming in your reality. Yet.
Good luck, rest easy.”

“No, did you not come together this time?”

 

"It's scary to think I'm just a small part of something much greater. The ocean never felt this way and I suppose it's the same." Katie says, holding her double trident close like a stuffed toy.


I smile, chuckling a bit as I take out the blue cube and look at it.

 

“It’s exactly the same.”
Pause.
“I don’t suppose you’d run if I told you I was a weapon built to kill Lady Gaia, would you?”


Each edge is about five centimeters, and there’s a small trident etching on one side; every other side is smooth.

 

"W-Which Gaia?" Katie asks nervously.


I feel the cube over a bit more, before desummoning it for safety with a smile.

"Thank you." I mutter, before falling unconscious again.

 

“This one, but I should work on yours as well. Unless, of course, she can function without any of her life-related abilities.” Fable says, shrugging. “I wouldn’t bother, though. I don’t understand why I’d need to kill either one, or why I was even made for that matter.”

 

"W-Who created you?" Katie asks, scared.

 

“I dunno. I think Myrolal killed one of ‘em, though.” She shrugs.
“You, on the other hand, look like you see Xlentia stomping after you. You good?”
