Hello from my hotel room in Rome... uh, probably should have mentioned I was going away.

There's a pause.
"Fuck! We totally... that bastard, knew exactly what he was doing! Uh, terribly sorry, we only wanted to take you to give your testimonies at the summit."

"Oh my... that's, fuck, that's brilliant! And nobody can blame us! I doubt anyone would object. Uh - perhaps the Gerts could be an ally? Give Thanos a bit of trouble where you're at? I'll have somebody bring it up with Torl. Uh, by the way, how did you do it? No blood, can't have used a blade... was it suitably painful?"

"Very well," she says solemnly. "We will have to kill them all without your assistance. Rendezvous point Delta, all! They simultaneously cast the vanish spell and scatter, leaving footprints in the ash. One of them has dropped a piece of parchment covered in Dogun runes.

"A pleasure.", he says. "Uh, when are you supposed to speak? Rally starts in an hour."

"I'll have her taken to the dungeons. I will be visiting her shortly to negotiate a new arrangement."
Esmé merely smiles. "You know perfectly well no prison can hold me."
"Would it be okay if I left you here with Kalitsk?"
She nods and he turns to you. "I have a vast collection of books and notes. Use the time to browse, even practice if you want to. I'll have the guards bring you lunch, and of course Deepwater will be with you."
He turns to leave the room.

 

"Ah, um, my partner is the one that will be speaking," I say with a twinge of guilt, "No ones told us anything about where or when though"

 

Before he leaves I ask "Can I go see Dermit? I want to go annoy him"

 

"Then why didn't to say that to him before you killed him?"

"Best turn up for the start. I'll call you then. Oh, and if you feel like shopping, I'll arrange a discount for you with the other town businesses. Enjoy your breakfast!"
You go up the stairs. Bantira is sitting on the bed looking sorrowful. "That's some seriously expensive food we're getting for free because, well you know. I would have refused it."

He looks amused. "I'll have a guard escort you down to the dungeons when the interrogation's over."
"I have a few words for him too," Esmé adds.
"Even better! I'll have them take you both. Uh, I don't think I have any hobbit-sized clothes."
"Won't need any."
"Really -you'd just waltz round the palace dressed in- you have changed."
"No. Your delusions have."

 

"Well looking forward to it"

 

The ring contains everything you had at the start, the remaining fruit, the pink lemons, your emeralds and your and Hels's adventuring clothes.

Through the staircase. You could try talking your way past, or find a way to use stealth.
The parchment catches your eye - it has your name on it, and the words Entry Permit printed across the top in villager script amongst the Dogun. You think back to the Brotherhood's conversation. Would they really kill "all of them"? You could identify them, you realise.

Esmé looks at you playfully. "So, alone in the second fanciest accommodation in the Province. What do we get up to?"

 

Stealths out of the question so try talking

 

I feel another pang of guilt for accepting so readily

"I'll be reading. I have no idea what you'll be doing" I start heading to the first bookshelf I see

 

You take the parchment and set off towards the staircase, still worried about the probable mass murder in Manifis. You aren't entirely sure where it is, and before you get there you encounter a Dogun guard. "Sir, please leave the Manifis vicinity.", he says. With a shock, you see that behind him is the elf from the Brotherhood, aiming a bow at his head.

 

Duck! Behind you!

I try to get him to duck.
