Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Like null?" The figure asks.

 

“But sentient and bent on revenge.” Amber nods.

 

"Interesting. I am not sure if null is sentient, though it doesn't really exist." The figure says.

 

"I'll just use a blanket if we have one."

 

The giant's wails of pain and/or cursing is muffled by the object nailed in his mouth, as he looks to check on how the others are doing.

 

"I've learned one thing from Lady..."
Mortius hears a corrupted scream - something or someone pained, trapped, longing.
"...and that is everything that isn't is, and everything that is isn't; or that there's a third side to every coin."

They seem relatively unfazed, the deepest wound a shallow cut into one of the draconians' arms.

"Well, you get to pick whatever blankets you want. I'm fine with my fur. And fire."

 

Mortius seems completely unphased by the scream. He seems to even act like it's an order from a customer at a dayjob.

"The flip of a coin always has a third outcome. It's never truly fifty fifty," Mortius says, "When something that only partially exists is destroyed, it seems somewhere to go."


Eve enters the void palace through a portal, Onyx jumping through after her in her cat form. Eve heads off toward the library, while Onyx heads toward the cryo room.

 

"And thus you reach the fourth side." Amber nods.


Emerald's paging through a few dozen tomes, for once seeming unaware of her surroundings.

Avis squawks at Onyx as she enters.

 

Mortius shrugs.


Eve ignores Emerald, instead looking at the handful of guardians in the library suspiciously.


Onyx's hairs spike up, Onyx hissing in return.

 

"Well, thanks for the charm. Should make constant feeding... less of a problem."


There's only two, and they're all fairly absorbed in their books.

Avis shapeshifts into Onyx, hissing back.

 

"Considering your state, it was a little difficult to find the right charm to make you live." Mortius says.


Eve looks at one of the guardians, before changing her hand into a gun and blasting them through the head with it, a large hole being created in place of their face. Eve kneels down, taking their hand as a finer changes to a precise knife. She cuts the guardians hand open, taking out a crystal hidden within and crushing it.


Onyx hisses more at Avis, pacing around her.

 

"Are sentient zombies a rarity here?"

"Can we not test the barriers?" Emerald asks, irritated despite not bothering to look up.


Avis shapeshifts back, baring her teeth as frost forms around her mouth.

 

"Your kind is." Mortius says.


"Would you rather a human spy steal your mass of knowledge?" Eve inquires.


Onyx runs off into the room, looking for a way up without using the ladder.

 

"Always another story with foreigners, isn't it..."


"If he followed my rules, I'd let the Hive Master check a book out."

There's only the ladders for getting up... or flight, as Avis opts to do.

 

"An interesting one." Mortius says.


"Have you documented the war between guardians and humans?" Eve asks.


Onyx runs around, trying to get away from Avis.

 

"Funny what some people'll do for another chance, isn't it?"


"Doing so right now. In fact, you're sort of giving my whole ruse away, so shoot the other one and we'll continue."

That seems like an impossibility, Avis fluttering between the tops of whatever ladder Onyx happens to be closest to.

 

"They beg, they sacrifice, they curse. No matter what they do, they just eliminate their chances of Gaia's blessing." Mortius says.


"W-Wait! I'm not a human!" The other guardian protests, dropping their book.

Eve walks over to the guardian, looking them in the eyes before grabbing their hand. Eve cuts their hand open, and it bleeds. The guardian clenches their fist out of pain before the bleeding promptly stops.

"Alright, you're safe." Eve says. The guardian lets out a sigh of relief, before Eve quickly shoots them through the head. Eve's hand changes into a syringe, which she puts into their chest. The syringe slowly fills with blood, before draining again, leaving a small pile of tiny crystals in the syringe.

"Their disguises are getting more convincing." Eve says, syringe turning back into a hand which she uses to destroy the crystals with.


Onyx stops, staring Avis down.

 

Amber laughs, nodding.
"Sometimes it feels good putting them out of their misery. Sometimes."


"If you would've just shot, we could already be halfway done with the impending conversation. So, in case you didn't notice, they don't have access to anything valuable."

Avis stares back.

 

Mortius shakes his head.

"Everyone has their time." Mortius says.


"Security comes first." Eve says.


Onyx hisses.

 

Amber shrugs.
"All I can say is that mine's long gone."


"You actually think I fell for the disguise?"

Avis shapeshifts into a wolf and howls back.
