The other way to the ruins

 

As you leave, the Dogun lowers his sword and sighs. You head back down the stairs and to the Heights crossroads, then along the road to Rodoroc. You're greeted by a dwarf on the way.
"Ah! A Villager! What a welcome sight. I presume you've heard about what happened at the prison?"

The horrible sensation of being killed and rebuilt repeats itself, and you find yourself in a small town at the edge of a forest. Logs are stacked in the streets and villagers are walking purposefully around, looking a bit sorrowful. One of them looks up at you. "Uh, where the fuck did you come from?"

"That is fortunate. We at the Embassy have reason to believe he is conspiring with Elimut. Does this sound plausible?"

 

''No idea''

 

She looks disappointed.
"Know this. To you, the death of a leader is a temporary nuisance. To us, it is the loss of thousands more years of wisdom, the loss of a millennia-long friend, and the loss of the spirit that drove us from a simple city in the Southern valleys to the greatness we hold today. Togak is Aldorei. Do not let Dermit take him away."

 

''Look, me and Dermit aren't really on the best terms. So i probably will be no help''

 

"We do not ask for negotiation. The entire balance of power in Central Gavel is at stake, he will not back down at a simple request. Perhaps I should explain the situation."

 

''You probably should''

 

"Nope, in the dark."

 

Plans I see. Just noticed that now.

If I can, open my eyes since I can't get up without waking up Rin.

 

"Elimut plans for the King to die. That much is for certain. Whether he plans to do it himself is another matter, perhaps he knows of another plan. We would not be surprised - Brian is not popular with anyone. If this were to transpire, Dermit would almost certainly become High Mage of Gylia, and Elimut would begin his plan of aggressive integration of the rest of the Province. So, there is a motivation there, and if Elimut is a villager at all he will exploit that. That's where we come in. Elimut is sure to target Greater Aldorei, as it's no secret we do not want it any longer. Togak, however, would not allow it to be transferred to the Crown. If Togak could be removed, he could take our lands and possibly even Aldorei itself. Elimut is likely to use Dermit for this purpose. If Dermit dies, there's a thorn gone from his side. If Togak dies, then he takes the greatest prize in the province. Providing Dermit can be convinced. You know him. Would he accept such a deal? Would he be a match for Togak? Would you, if it were necessary, intervene on our side?"

"Early this morning, two Doguns broke into the prison. Next thing we heard, the prison was collapsing, dozens of dwarves killed in cold blood. Three Doguns made it out. Barbaric - the number of innocents killed just to free one prisoner..."

 

''If i get to screw over Dermit then sure.''

 

You see that it's late afternoon. The streets seem a lot less crowded, and banners are being put up to celebrate the summit.

"We thank you. This is a matter of the utmost importance to the entire province. I have important matters to attend to - you will not see me again."
The bell of the bank rings out as she leaves - it's 5 PM.

 

Can i say something to her before she leaves?

 

You can call after her. She's already started leaving but she'd still hear you.

 

Turn to the other side to wake Rin up. Place a hand on her head carefully.
"Hey."

 

''Can you spread a message for me around town?''

 

She gracefully swivels back around to face you.
"And what would that message be? Be advised - we are neutral. We will not strike unless struck first, and seek to resolve conflicts rather than create them."

 

''And thats why i must tet you know that Rodoroc jail has been destroyed and now Doguns occupy the Gate. War has never been so close.''
