SPOILER The Olm

Hi! For my first post i decided to just do some theorising about the Olm. Please add your opinions below, I would love to have a discussion about this! Also please keep in mind these are all just some ideas (common belief or obscure) I would like to throw out there and talk about!

The Olm are...
The Olm are belived to be the dwellers of time valley. The time valley secret discovery and the general land discovery describe them as an ancient species that has existed long before the portal and they have a significant control over time itself. They are also described to come from a far off land (This will be useful later). The information i just told you is fairly clear information about the Olm and that is what we will be going by for the other theories.

Bob is related to the Olm
This theory is more just some odd correlations between bobs design and the believed design of the Olm. The dead creature in the secret time valley discovery is believed to be an Olm. It has grey skin and seems to bald but that might not be common among the Olm. Whenever Bob is shown in a cutscene he is always shown to have oddly grey skin. Bob also has a bizarre affinity for magic. We also know nothing about his mother or the rest of his family. This could mean that Bob is part Olm however he could just have really bad skin.

We have heard of the Olm before...
Now this one is really far fetched but bear with me. The dying Olm from the secret discovery in time valley said some stuff in wynnic which refer to something chasing the Olm. The Olm have also been described to be very very old and as I discussed earlier from a far off land (as described in the time valley description). Now what I find interesting is dern has been recurrently described as a far off dark land. Now that is a loose connection but i do have more. In Time valley there is a group of dark cultists and a mini boss called temporal horror. now temporal refers to time but why would there be a dark cult in a time area who manage to summon another time related beast? This links to a small idea mentioned by spyrohawk about time being the perfect combo of light and darkness. So basically the opposite of corruption. Would it not make sense for a time related species to come from dern the land of darkness? Maybe at its rim there is a place where light and dark have collided creating a time related area and that is where the Olm come from? Now that is not even the theory. The theory itself relates to the thing chasing the Olm. A powerful presence that could decimate the species. perhaps it is the eye. And before you say "well thats just like the ancients" Maybe thats the point. Maybe the Olm came from dern, running away from the eye and made a city in the dernal jungle but the eye found them. So they fled to time valley only to once again be chased out, or maybe they were caught. And the ancients were also believed to come from dern.

I went on a tangent at the end there but i would love to start a conversation about what and who the Olm are.

 

Not really.

As much as the Olm are interesting, there’s nothing else to talk about them since there isn’t any other information. The whole idea of the Olm coming from Dern kinda makes sense, except that it screws up the whole deal with the Ancients. Though at this point, it’s best to wait until the next update comes out. A huge chunk of the lore referring to Dern and the Eye is probably outdated since it came out before the Gavel update (such as the sealed letters, Wynn Excavation Site D, Haven Antiquity).

 

I just found out that if you kill the temporal rift it explodes into a bunch of items called light aura and dark aura so that might back up time being a perfect form of light and dark

Maybe the ancients and the olm are the same thing. Highly unlikely, but possible.

 

Idk, I personally lean towards them being different. Sure there are only so many mob models in Minecraft, but still. Not to mention that it raises other questions like, “Why did the Ancients split up into two different groups?”

Didn't think of that... there are definitely many similarities though.
