I try to slip away while the officer is focused on the girl

 

As you start leaving, the girl pulls her hand back, looks at you, punches the air in triumph and follows you out.
"And I thought I'd seen it all today, the officer says, shaking his head and closing the door. The girl jogs back down to the lower town.
"Follow me!", she exclaims. "I've found Madam Juntabi!"

"Uh, do you mean that I need an excuse for the mage, or that you're not happy with the 'pretend we kicked you out' plan? The mage doesn't need an excuse - he's supposed to be out escorting people who get trapped on islands, that sort of thing."

Uh, perhaps I should describe the situation more?
The door is situated at the front of the inn, between two bay windows. You are just beyond the left-hand window, hiding from the alley you fell into. The innkeeper is opening the door, and Esmé is following him out. Still want to hide behind the door?

 

Then I hide behind the corner of the wall

 

You hide behind the corner of the wall. The innkeeper comes towards you, Esmé away from you. The innkeeper walks slowly down the high street towards you, looking in all directions.
"Goddamn keys.", he mutters to himself. "Knew I should have had spares."

 

As soon as he's near me I say to him "I'll give you the keys just don't tell her I'm here"

 

He looks quickly back at her, then steps into the alley with you.
"Uh, great", he whispers. "Quick, hand them too me."
You notice Esmé glance behind her, turn around and briskly walk towards the alley.

 

I give him all keys except room 3 "Don't tell her I'm here" I run off

 

”Think mage excuse. Now think no excuse.”

He grabs you by the shoulder. "Wait. This isn't all of them. Still need two more."
Esmé rounds the corner and stands smugly at the end of the alley.
"What's going on here?", she says, her tone distinctly amused.

A tent on the second floor from the top, just above where the fight took place.

"Splendid. I'll go and brief the guards. They'll be at your tent to 'arrest' you shortly. Do what you need to do."

 

"She threw them out the window ask her"

"He has them", she shouts. The innkeeper rummages in the pile of clothes below the window, but no key is found.
"Still missing rooms 3 and 5", he says, turning to you.

She jogs confidently past her house, down the alley where you found the hat, out of the town and into the main road. She continues, past Maex towards the enormous intersection of all the roads in Lower Molten Heights. This is a lot farther than you were expecting.

 

"I payed for a room I'm keeping one key. No idea where the other is"

 

He looks distinctly uncomfortable. "Technically, she payed for it first, so it's hers. Terribly sorry. I can give you a refund. - uh, wait, how do I know you're telling the truth? I don't want to be locked out of one of my own rooms, for the Kings sake!"

 

"Give me a refund and I'll return the key that I have"

 

"um...isn't this a bit far? you sure this is the right place "

 

He sighs. "Look, I'll give you half of it now, and then when we find the last key, I can give you the rest."
"He definitely took both.", Esmé says as the innkeeper takes out four emeralds. "I saw from the bubble he trapped me in after he pushed us both out of the window."
"Holy nostrils of Remikas, what the fuck is going on", the innkeeper mutters at the ground.

"No, this is definitely the right way, she says, turning in the direction of the sign to Rodoroc and not even saying anything as she crosses the border into the Kingdom, where you know Doguns are definitely not welcome. You wonder why there are no guards.
