You won't be able to post any content which isn't completely made by you, without liscence for every single copyrigted material that you use.
Previous copyright law will be thrown out of the window, so no more rimes, let's plays, or anything that uses copyrighted media.
Alternative media also won't be able to exist as they would need to pay gigantic fees for even posting LINKS to articles they're referencing.

It's basically the: "Oi! You got a liscence for that?" meme.
Basically it's 1984 but actually real.

You should isscuss this issue with other moderators to maybe make a post about this issu since it will effect EVERYONE living in the EU. If you live in the EU you should message your local MP about this issue.

 

I don't think we have to make a post about this, I mean it's every where on the medias rn.
As for me, I don't think eu is capable of enforcing such things, I mean youtube bots have troubles to copystrike correctely copyrigted material already, so I doubt EU will be able to make such survelience on the whole internet.

 

Well, they are able to legally force all European companies to surveillance their content, and to check them for all the stuff @Vsauce mentioned. If they don't ablige, they'd probably get major fines, and keep getting them until they correct themselves. Even if they don't get everything and even if they aren't good at striking the correct material they'll still have a large impact.

 

The fact they aren't phisically able to do it won't mean they won't enforce it.
To put it simply if this law goes, then mass censrship will happen not becouse they're gonna censor everybody (even though they already do that, for example: shadow banning), but becouse it will be impossible to create a system that would filter copyrighted material out, so instead of creating one they will just shut everybody down.

You not reporting on this everywhere you can, makes you part of the problem why these laws are being able to get passed in the first place; becouse nobody knows about them.

 

I would much rather let Ajit Pai make me pay for my internet than the EU taking away my memes. Without memes there is no internet.

Well unless the UK can decide a time on when to leave the EU then its probably safe, however it may have a domino effect where the same rules will probably be passed there as well. We've seen it before with the BFII controversy where Belgium and Hawaii gave way to other countries taking action against loot boxes, so its safe to say that no meme is safe.

If you can't say anything that puts EU in a bad light then you can't meme.
