3. Summary: What's the good point of Specialist?
I've already talked a lot. Let me summarize the point I wanted to tell you.

  • Specialist is good, especially when you fight a boss that you cannot beat with other weapons' elements.
    • First, search the weakness element of the boss, put the corresponding powder on Specialist, you will do so much damage, since attack speed is Super Fast. (Read my main damage thread for more mechanics about it)
  • Specialist does not need a build for it. You can already inflict good amount of damage, once you get a good Specialist and high tier powders.
    • When you use Specialist, the ID is everything about it. As I told earlier, ID Boost of your gear will do almost nothing compared to Specialist's 650% Damage Boost.
    • To put it another way, any builds that are made for this kind of item, boosting its damage with surprising amount of damage % (Specialist / Pure), will be useless. So that means ↓
  • Specialist is bad for end-game builds. It falls behind to any other decent weapons. Make sure to choose other good weapons (maybe Mythics) when you make your own build.

Specialist is a very unique item, it has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let's try use this unique item wisely, why not!

Literally the highest thunder damage build I can make with this. It’s not that op. All the items are the highest possible/close to highest thunder damage % of their type.

 

I honestly don't know what you're trying to say in the first paragraph, but this weapon really isn't all that great.

By the way, does the % damage for each element added by The Specialist correspond to the amount of damage each different element of powder gives? (Water Powders give least damage, so it's % damage buff on the dagger is highest).

Specialist has low base damage, which means you can't really increase the damage it does further than the damage it does after applying powders, meaning you're almost stuck at 5,000 damage spins.

With something like Hive Dagger + Powders, surpassing 5000 damage spin attacks is relatively easy. In addition, The Specialist has Super Fast Attack Speed already, meaning you can't increase the melee damage via attack speed tiers.

Furthermore, The Specialist's low base damage will make it almost impossible to break through any sort of elemental defenses.

TL;DR:

It's hard to increase the damage specialist does through armor and accessories, and the specialist has really bad Elemental armor penetration so you're best of choosing a different dagger.
