“I dunno, I wasn’t keeping in touch. King sent my ass to go try and find this place. Also, please remind me when I went from an unbelievable sack of shit to a trustworthy source?”

He can hear footsteps coming down it.

 

"People tend to tell the truth when they know they can avoid death," The person says, "At least, with enough torture."

 

He tries as stealthily as he can to hide behind a corner, blocking vision to the spiral.

 

Alice laughs.
“Oh, you haven’t done anything to me yet. Anyhow, how much does a funeral cost? Those two wouldn’t give me an answer, and I’d rather my money not go to waste. Plus, the last thing families of the fallen need to worry about are funeral expenses.”
Pause.
“I mean, unless those people didn’t have families, then nevermind, I guess.”

There’s not really a big enough corner.

Two men leave from the spiral, talking with each other and strolling further down the tunnel. Neither appear armed.
“Did you see the fight between Alpha clan and Stygiment?”
“No, I missed it. Was it good?”
“Hell yeah it was, shame you weren’t there. One hell of a light show!”
“Damn, you gotta tell me when Styg’s next fight is. They all sound so damn great.”
“Yeah, I’ll keep tabs. You’re missing out way too much!”

 

The giant watches the men go, slightly nervous, but intent on staring them down come an encounter.

 

They just keep walking.
“Anyhow, how’re the kids?”
“Man, Steph’s really coming along. I think he’s gonna do well in the academy.”
“A mage, huh? You ever...”
They trail off as they turn a corner.

 

"What people?" The person asks, suspicious.

 

Did they go back the way the giant came or to where he's going?

 

“The people I bit.” Alice says, glancing towards the viewing room.

To where he’s going.

 

He trails them as sneakily as one his size can.

 

"Nice try, but I'm not falling for your stalling tactics." The person says.

 

He stays quiet and puts his money back in his pocket.

 

“No, seriously, I have no backup. I went in solo. How much do funerals cost? I haven’t killed before, it’s leaving an odd taste in my mouth.”

The person at the counter counts coins, takes them, then smiles.
“All set. Have a nice night.”
“You too!”

They’re too caught up in their own conversation to notice or care.
“...Wait, is this the part getting reset?”
“I think so. May as well give it one more walk through before it does. Memories and all.”
“You met your mount here, right?”
“Yeah, during a practice run. Bugger’s never left my home since.”
“That why you’re always gettin’ a bigger house?”
“Heh... yeah. He thinks he’s smaller than he is.”

 

The giant keeps his distance, curiously listening in, still.

 

"You too."

They both leave the shop and Bardock eats his cookie.
"Mmm. It's good."

 

"How gullible do you think I am?" The person asks.

Suddenly, the door opens. What looks like a high ranking officer from the army walks through. His hair is shaven, and he has a blind eye with a scar across it.

"Sir?" The person asks.

"Agents 34 and 26 will be coming with me." The officer says quickly and bluntly.

"But sir, I need them to-" The person tries to say.

"Are you denying an order, 45?" The officer asks, glaring at the person.

"N...No sir." The person says. The two humans in animal masks walk out, following the officer.

"And don't let that Shadow escape." The officer says sternly.

"Yes sir." The person says, keeping his guns on Alice.

 

Alice gives the officer a thumbs up.
"Stayin' right here. Won't even off myself... Probably."

She waits for the officer to leave.
"Anyhow... no, I don't think you're gullible. I know I'm a special case. Frankly, I don't understand this whole conflict thing, but I don't pay much attention either."

"You ever name him?"
"Always called him bugger. Never leaves me alone, and he's a giant pain in the ass. Precious, though. Never stopped getting jumpy around the sink or bein' happy to be fed."
"I wonder if pets ever get tired of... you know, keeping us company. They do the same damn thing forever, you know?"
"Yeah... that's a good point. Don't get me thinkin' on my trip down memory lane, will you?"
"Oh, come on, resets happen all the time. 'snever time to be very sentimental."
"True."
Pause.
"...When'd you think we'll finally break?"
"I dunno, sure didn't take my kid long."
"With that succubus gone, time's been going a lot slower, it seems. Ain't taking weeks anymore."
"I think everyone's happy with that. She always seemed... disappointed."
"Wouldn't you be? Same game over and over. It's hella exciting, but... I mean, think. We've been alive, what, twenty years? That's like a day as far as she's concerned. I think I'd be bored by then too."
"True, but... it does keep changing."
"Only changes so much, though. I dunno if it's enough."

Your mouth is filled with very sweet chocolate, the chocolate chips soon melting in your mouth and making the taste even stronger.
Anne telekinetically carries her cake and the pie, following you out of the village.
"Looks good." She comments.

 

"Stop playing around and tell me the truth!" The person says, annoyed, squeezing his triggers a little.

 

"It is. It's so good."

 

“Stop thinking every word out of my mouth is a lie.” Alice retorts. “You may have the gun, tough guy, but pull the trigger and we both know you’re done getting answers.”
