Cancer: Should We Change Its Name?

The current Cancer item does seem more like Scorpio. So yeah I think it should be changed, but not becouse the name is "offensive", that's really stupid becouse people are treating a name for an item in game as somehow being an offense to people who died from cancer. My gradfather has died from cancer and my grandmother was battling with cancer not so long ago and you don't see me going to planetarium demanding that they change the name of canstalation that has been in use since ancient times.

I think if you're going to change the name it should be called something epic and related to mass death from disease, like: Black Plague.

 

Well we already have three items named after plague, though I guess it's better than the current name.

 

honestly i can understand why people would get offended what with all the political correctness these days as well as the stigma attached to the disease itself but honestly if we get another item im all for it lol

The item itself has life steal and poison on it, which in some players eyes is a bit out of taste. I can fully understand why this would upset people.

 

Mind, I'm taking into account those who are just like "Oh hey, if I say yes we get a new item too! Sure, I'll vote yes, gimme!" The "yes" votes will have to really outstrip the "no" votes for us to do this change.

 

Honestly, I feel like some of the original elements of Zodiac signs make no sense, and Wynn did a better job of matching them to elements, to an extent. I mean, let’s name a few, shall we?

The symbol for Sagittarius is a centaur with a bow, and it’s official element is Fire. Archers are commonly seen as fragile and swift creatures, so the Air element makes more sense here.

Or, Aquarius, which official element is Air, but it has Aqua in its name. The word “aqua” is commonly used to describe water.

But I do agree that it was a mistake to make Cancer based off the disease, and another helmet should be made that makes more sense based off the symbol.

 

I've always seen Cancer as an odd item for it's name, as the zodiac sign should be more of a different thing and have like a good melee dmg/tier attack speed buff, changing it's name and adding another zodiac item that can replace it will fit better imo

 

Maybe call it "Fujo O", the Impure king???

I think that's more a nod to the way cancer spreads. The disease isn't meant to literally be cancer.

The way the helmet is right now is fine and really shouldn't be upsetting, but people also want a new item so either way seems fine.

 

Cancer's a star sign, but it's also a disease. It's unavoidable, why don't we just face up to it and put our hands up and say "Yeah. It's a disease, poison is a connotation of disease and death.". I vote don't change it.

 

If you're changing it because a few people get offended, don't change it.
If you're changing it to better relate to the zodiac signs, then yes, change it.
If it's for a new water helmet, yes, change it.

Well, even if we changed the lore, it still has all that poison on it, so it's quite obvious what it's referencing, isn't it?

 

Isn't Jormungandr just a Norse version of Ouroboros, and already existing item?

 

The Ouroboros is more a symbol, while Jormungandr is a character within mythology with characteristics that happen to match well with Cancer's current design.

 

It always did kinda bug me that every single other zodiac armor had it's zodiac sign in mind when it was made, and then cancer just kinda fell flat with it being based around the illness instead and all. I wouldn't mind having it changed and I would enjoy a new cancer that's more in line with what the zodiac sign represents. (Not sure what you'd do for a crab, water fire maybe? Idk)
