All of this makes no sense.

1) It's not confirmed if The Olm are The Ancients. The wording is vague enough that The Olm could be something that's hunting the Ancients. Or a completely different race.

2) Where does it say The Ancients created Cataclysm

3) Where did they say The Ancients created the protal

4) Where does it say that they did so to put corruptive powers into the cyrstals

5) Where does it say they collapsed the land around the portal

2. Their knowledge of magic was far beyond what the province could handle. The nether portal was created by cataclysm obviously, however who was around to be somehow powerful enough (Player can't even do it) to use Cata in order to tear a hole through space and time except for the people who had enough magical power to destroy their own race.

Wynn was never affected by corruption in any major sense until CoW was given the perfume, and the ancients placed corruption power within the crystals, enough so to allow amadel to erase all life from the world, they could only get such corruptive power from the nether itself.

That last part is very vague too but it makes enough sense but ok

 

Reading the lore of Cataclysm, it talks about a tool to destroy worlds. I don't believe that is at all implying that it created the portal.

Wynn was not faced with the corruption before the miners opened the portal and CoW was created, true. But CoW seems to be like much more of a solitary beast, not an army leader. The real problem occurred when Bak'al got corrupted, then sh*t went down. And, where does it say that the power within the crystals is corruption? I would argue that they have more of a tie to Dern and Darkness than to the Nether and Corruption. Also, where does it say The Ancients were the ones who gave the crystals power? To me it seems more likely that the Ancients simply protected the crystals, but not created them, which once again ties back to the Theory of The Ancients using the crystals to escape from Dern.

 

My current understandings:
1. Dern is a place that it is possible to visit, however, it's not a province, it is more like a realm, and only accesible through portals.
2. The eye is an entity of evil, and rules over Dern.
3. Bob went to dern to fight the eye.
4. Creatures skilled in magic have fled from Dern before.

That's all I think I know.

Check the dialogue where it explains corruption and light & darkness in Wynn Ex.D it outright states "the ancients placed some of that power in the crystals, whoever gathered them together had the power to change the world"

In ToL it said when the undead first broke out he was leading thousands of them and the pack (CoW). Later Bak'al took over as the corrupter got trapped in the corrupted cave.

 

I wouldn't go as far as say that cataclysm directly caused all of this. The lore of the weapon is vague at best and it could be interpreted as that. But if it was, who was the one that cut the rift as BIG as the portal open? What about the realm of light, was that opened by the weapon as well? We really don't know enough about how portals are opened and how they work. For all we know some drunk wizard opened it with a spell.

Wynnexcavation's crystals are almost certainty NOT corruption. In the final battle with amadel the arena is made of black blocks and the boss himself is a wither. The corruption corrupts things/people into disfigured versions of themselves (CoW was a disfigured zombie-thing). The wynn build team also uses a strict pallet of blocks when it comes to corruption: Nether blocks and a little black. The most corrupted areas including roots of corruption follow this. The entire arena is 100% black with beacons in the middle. Nothing close to other corrupted areas. Also the corruption's "goal" is to spread and grow. The total goal of W.E was to take over wynn and blow stuff up. There's also the fact that the player and others within the W.E organization handled the crystal fragments without a problem. The power only really showed when they were put together and used, Unlike corruption which has a tendency to leak over everything.

Still doesn't confirm that Cataclysm opened the Nether Portal. To be honest, I would argue it has more to do with Fantastic Voyage than anything

I just checked the dialogue. It's unclear, could be referring to Corruption OR it could be referring to Light and Darkness

I think Dern was once a flourishing province. However unlike Wynn, it has been completely corrupted (and now that the Corruption has taken Dern it is starting on Wynn). I also believe that due to Dern being corrupt, people must have tried to quarantine it by sealing it behind the mountains. However when the miners broke through said mountains, Corruption from Dern has begun to leak into Wynn.

 

Ya I figured I would get nailed for this sooner or later. But overall I still think that the point still (somewhat) stands. If this is a form of corruption, its not the standard issue kind. The final form fight arena is 100% black and lit by beacons. The nether (Which I think we can all agree is 100% corrupted) follows the red and black lit by lava formula.

 

if the corruption originally came out of the nether portal in Wynn, why the heck did it take Dern first?

Who says the corruption originally came from Wynn? As far as we KNOW it just appeared here.

 

Because Dern's issue has been shown many times to be Darkness, not corruption. There is no reason to assume there's anywhere else that has corruption.
