[d&d] The Fall Of A City [8/8]

I prod it with my foot, then pick it up and look it over if it seems non-threatening.

 

The piece of metal has a red light on it. It has some openings in it for things to be connected, like wires and such. Otherwise, it seems non-threatening.

 

I stick it in my bag, then look back over to the man in the alleyway.

 

He's reading a newspaper. He's either ignoring you or never noticed you in the first place.

 

I walk up to him.
"'Scuse me?"

 

The man looks to be of older age. He glances from his newspaper.
"Yes?"

 

"How long have you been sitting here?"
I ask, more quizzical than accusative.

 

"Since this morning, why?"

 

"This,"
I pull out the thing I took off the ground.
"was this over there when you got here?"
I point to the spot where it was.

 

"I didn't quite pay attention to the floor when I was walking back here, but it's the first time *cough* I'm seeing it."

 

"Hm. Thanks."
I nod, walking back to Toki (assuming she followed).
"Let's go back."
I then start making my way back to the shop.

 

The man goes back to his newspaper.

After lots of walking, you're back on the sidewalk of the sushi shop. Pinky walks out with her hat and hood on. She shields her face from the morning sunlight with both arms.

 

"Hey. Glad you're up."
I say as I approach her.

 

She reveals her face quickly, which although it seems hard to distinguish, looks darker than usual. A very light shade of red manifests itself.
"Yeah.. you too. I'm fine."

 

"'S'at usually how you start mornings? Making sure you're fine?"
I half joke.

 

"I'd be even better if you were killed last night, smart one," she says sarcastically before putting her hand over her eyes to block out the sun. "It's too bright."

 

"Ouch."
I respond with equal sarcasm.
"Let's go inside, then. Seriously."
I start making my way back inside the shop.

 

Pinky follows, heading straight to the book she left on the table.

 

"Okay, so, status update:"
I start as I follow her to the table.
"Giant golem's gone, so are the birds. Reporters are reporting, investigators are investigating. We might end up seeing more guards out at night. In other news, I went back to the place where Daniel and I killed the other Eye-guy, and I found this."
I pull out the mechanical piece.

 

Pinky looks hard and long at the piece, but not investigating it. She just stares and begins to tear up a bit before wiping it away quickly.
"I-it's a core. If you got it from the place where the Eye was killed, this is definitely it. Essentially, it's the heart, it's life force."
