You see a sleeping owl with feathers on it. Does that count?

 

It should, they're just attached to an owl.

 

Is there a way to pluck a feather off it without waking it up?

 

You could try to do it gently.

 

Sure what check would it be?

 

Sleight of Hand. It's like pickpocketing, except instead of stealing something from a pocket, you're stealing a feather from its body.

 

If you wake it up it wouldn't be that bad, it'll upset it but it'll live. Also there could be a discarded feather lying around in the nest.

It will allow us to get a bunch of spells. 3 cantrips from any class list can let us get a bunch of cool stuff. Then also the tome of ancient secrets will allow us to get ritual spells from any spell list such as summon familiar, identify, comprehend languages and a bunch more. It could be a bit much with three of them, although Liun could choose pact of chain for a buffed familiar instead which would fit his character well.
