Rose smiles.
“In that case, you’re free to set the terms of the duel. I assume you don’t force fights to the death here, so that’ll at least be a breath of fresh air.”

 

"Yeah. I just hope that Voidfiller doesn't start anything coming through here."
Pause.
"The guy who I want to pick up the fabric."

 

"Oh, the arena protects spirits so we can revive ourselves. Death isn't much of an issue." The fire guardian says, smiling.

 

“Can you describe him so I can have the others send him your way if he does come?”

 

"Yep. It wasn't from her though, so don't worry about that."

 

“In that case, I’ll be willing to fight to the death if you’d like. Again, you’re welcome to set the terms.”

“Still, I got singed once and I’ve kept clear from any flames since. Not a fun experience.”

 

"No water, and painless execution over suffered healing." The fire guardian puts forward.

 

"Wish I could. He could be anything when he shows up. I'll ask him about it, but I don't even know if he's coming."

 

“I can only use fire and life magic, so you’re good there. Those terms sound good, though. I’m looking forward to seeing your mastery of pyromancy.” She nods, smiling.

“Shapeshifter? How fun. If you could keep me informed, I’d appreciate that.”

 

"I'll be interested to test my skills against a fire and life user. I'm sure you've won many a battle with those powers." The fire guardian compliments.

 

"It was because of a forest fire and me being reckless."

 

"Will do."
I nod.

 

“Ouch. You already get healed up?”

“Countless, but I’ve gone a few millenia without a fight. Mind me asking your name?”

“I’ll keep someone near your cell in case you reach him. There shouldn’t be magical interference over there, so hopefully no problems arise.”

 

"Good to know."

 

You approach a tunnel that’s only lit at the bottom of the stairwell.
“Oh, right. These stairs suck.” Mel sighs. “Don’t fall, I’m not going to even try to catch you.”

 

"It might end up being worth the fall."
I half joke, ready to follow or lead, whichever Mel directs.

 

Mel steps behind you.
“Almost, but not quite.” Mel chuckles. “I regret trying it.”

 

"You forgot that I'm made of metal."
I smile, walking.

 

“You’re free to try, but you’ll wake everyone up.”

 

"Cid." Cid says, offering a handshake.
