What he did is he followed a pattern which he lokks in the rooms the thieves could be if they started on even or ood floor and room
He did that 4 times flipped to check the combinations even-even, even-odd ,odd-even, odd-odd
Eventually the thieves are caught in the 64 days
You can test this yourself, it works every time
