I have noooooooo idea what you're talking about, i totally did not realise it and i totally did not edit it to fix that mistake.

lets say the pattern is a 5 day pattern. cuz they go every 5th day a floor up or down. lets say they start at the lowest floor and in the patter they always go up the 5 day or lets say they start at the 6th floor and they always go down cuz its a patter so after (5x5=25) 25 days they are at either the bottom or the top of the apartment. so again lets say they start at the 2 room at the bottom of the apartment they start in room 2 cuz the police will go in 1 first than 2 than 3 than 4 etc. so lets say they go right, right, right, right ,up. they tell each other that every floor they go a other direction but they will always go up so they go left left left left up than they go right right right right up and so on but that they are at floor sick and they go right right right right u...... now they can't go up so they stuck there so lets say now they are on floor 6 room 6 the police has a 100% capture rate now but only thing is the police don't know so they go every room 1 by 1.
so 6x6=36 so it will take 36 days to get the 100% find rate

I have a question, when they switch floors, do they remain in da same room but just on a different floor?

Like:

Theives are in floor 2, apartment 5

*floor switch*

Theives are in floor 3, apartment 5

 

it is a 4 day patern, and they can also go down...

All right, I think I have a solution. First of all, this assumes that the thieves make the best moves possible and the officer goes by what I say. This also assumes A-F is the floor and goes downwards while 1-6 are the rooms and go left to right. It'll take 20 days until it's inevitable for the thieves to be caught. This goes on the principle that the officer cannot check the rooms, but can mark them. So Day 1, the officer checks A2 and finds nothing there. He can leave a piece of paper sticking out the door so that he can check it later. Day 2, he checks B2 and finds nothing there. He finds nothing there, so he goes to A2 and sees if the piece of paper has moved. If it has then he found the thief, but this assumes that they make the best possible moves possible. So he does this same method for rooms C2. D2, E2, F2, A5, B5, C5, D5, E5, F5, A3, B4, C3, D4, E3, and F4, checking each door every day to make sure the papers haven't moved, which totals up to 18 days, and 18 marked doors. Now on Day 19, there are only 18 spaces for the thieves to go in without being caught. Day 19 doesn't matter for the officer so he can check any room he wants. On Day 20 however, the thieves are forced to go into a marked room, moving the paper and therefor leaving the officer to simply check all the doors for the paper and find the one they are in. And it's 100% guaranteed.

 

but what if the thieves put the piece of paper in the exact same place again?
ye you cannot use anything to mark a room, only your memory

 

Also, can the thieves go to from room 1 - 6 or 6 - 1? Or nah

 

since the police searches randomly, then the 'number' you're looking for is infinity. There's never a 100% chance of finding them
the sequence is none because there is no number of days
the closest thing you'll get to an answer is 'infinity'

So on Day 1, the thieves choose a random room, day 2-4 they move left/right accordingly, and then day 5 they go up or down. When the cycle repeats, do they choose another random room, or do they just go from 2-4?

 

So by "police" and "thieves" are there are just one of each? Or multiple?

since the amount of theifs was not specified except for you saying "theifs" as in more than 1, that means there could be a thief in every apartment in the entire flat so on the first day the cops would have a 100% chance of finding one if they just checked one room that day
Im not sure what a 'sequence of searching' is but im just going to give this answer 1,2 because after the second day they no longer have the 100% chance

 

You need to find a patern, or order to look into the rooms
And the thieves move as one, and are in 1 appartment at the same time. How else could they plan for a heist?
