“I can call upon Idhaenna to help your children and Gaia’s children reforge it. As for Mortius... I’m sorry I couldn’t shake him more.”

 

"Mortius said he was going to visit Praecantatia to fix his scythe, and he'd inquire about getting you a stronger and more durable form of resistance to the Hive Master." Tenebrae explains.

"Death is not an issue for me. How can I die, when I am already dead?" Mortius says in Xlentia's mind, words icy cold.

 

Xlentia ponders the question, before nodding.
“That’s pretty convenient... and thanks. I really do appreciate it... though I need an ocean right now, because I feel like I’m sitting in a sun.” She complains, heat fog radiating from her entire body.

 

"I can help you." Mortius says.

 

"Ya got that right."
He continues walking.

 

"Alright."
I nod, plucking Mitch off of the table and hoisting him over my shoulder, then I make my way to the courtyard.

 

Xlentia hesitates.
“I feel like we should head back first.”
Her scales are slightly glowing red from the heat.

Al yanks Owen and Percy from their chairs and helps them walk behind you.

“So, where you from? You don’t seem to be a shifter through and through.”

 

"That would only cause more pain. Let me help you." Mortius says, extending his free hand. An icy breeze blows from a portal leading into a completely frozen area.

 

“...Won’t I just melt stuff there?” Xlentia asks, having a hard time not just running through at full speed.

 

"I'm from not to far. Just across the ocean. Spent most of my life inside the forest."

 

"It is impossible." Mortius says, signalling for Xlentia to go through.

 

I take a peek back at them, but keep walking.

 

Xlentia nods.
"I'm sorry but thank you!" She yells, running through and rolling around on the ice.

They keep pace, Al shifting a bit to keep them upright.

As you enter the courtyard, another soldier laughs.
"Another short night of poker, I see."

"Oh... I'm sorry for what happened there."

 

The portal closes behind Xlentia, and the ice is extremely cold, cooling off Xlentia quickly.

As Xlentia rolls around on the ice, she begins to notice something inside it. Upon closer inspection, there appears to be hundreds, or rather, thousands of fire guardians trapped inside the ice. All of them look like they're in great pain, frozen, but still alive. Still able to feel the cold against their bare skin.

 

Xlentia pauses.
"Is this where the term 'hell froze over' comes from?" She asks nobody in particular before rolling around again.


Rose glances at Tenebrae.
"If you wouldn't mind me repaying part of my debt to you, I can remedy your burns." She offers.

 

The fire guardians remain frozen, some eyes looking toward Xlentia.


"That would help." Tenebrae says, looking a little strained from holding a brave face against the pain.

 

Xlentia waves, still rolling around.


Rose offers Tenebrae one of her namesake flowers.
"If you wouldn't mind letting the thorns overtake you, it would make it easier on me and permit a more thorough remedy."

 

After rolling around for a while, Xlentia notices a couple of demons looking at her from the end of the frozen area. They seem to be talking to each other about her.


Tenebrae looks a little suspicious, but takes the flower.

 

Xlentia walks towards them, curious.
"Hi?"


Vines and thorns wrap around Tenebrae's body, pricking her where the burns are. Rose sets them alight with a green flame, murmuring a chant as the burns recede from Tenebrae's skin and are replaced with a comfortable warmth.
After a minute, the vines recede and the rose returns to normal.
"Better?"

 

"Oh, it can talk." One of the demons says, surprised.

"I wasn't expecting it to be capable of communication. Greetings." The other demon says.


Tenebrae nods, looking calmer.
