Generic Fantasy - [5/7]

*Screams in honors*

You smoothly slide in to some average tavern by the western wall. Someplace called "Ye Old Taverne".
Okay, not some average. Extremely average. Unique in how utterly non-unique it is.
On top of the bookstore route, you meandered here, too.

Yes. What appears to be a dragon the size of a small horse, glowing blue with multiple spells of a similar type. It's asleep, for now.
"That explains so much, in this annoyingly vague way that actually explains absolutely nothing. I'm really enlightened now."
sigh
"So.. yeah, most of the pets are dead, except this murderous sleeping one here, and the repairmen aren't coming in to fix this place for a few days yet. I should really put up a closed sign.."

The streets are silent and desolate, offering little in anything resembling life. People have straight-up disappeared, and even that guy in the wheelchair is gone.

You find a plant that used to be a cat, incorporating it int-
Nope. Not working. Delayed bomb is a single-tier spell.

"I dunno. Dispersed, or somethin'. My best bet is to look for people who seem like they just went to every funeral that's happened in the last decade."

 

"As in something I did cau-"

Wait, can I communicate with dead animals cause they're dead? (Like Han) or do we not have auto translators when we die? (Making Han really special? ^-^)
"Even if you had... a sign... I wouldn't see it?"
I look over to the dragon shaped thing and motion at it
"Is that it? ... What.. did he (or she if I can tell .-.) ... do?"

 

I put my cultists cloak and go in and try to get a seat where no one's at and start reading alter self

 

Then I learn Alter Self spell.

 

Unnerved, I head back towards the docks, hoping to find a ferry or cargo ship that will take me to a different port or city

 

There is almost 100% something weird about Han.

"Portable dragon, it's called. Can grow and shrink all... Uhh... magically and such. Predictably rampaged 'till a passerby put it to sleep."

You shadily stow away in a seat to the side, making good headway into the book. Also, this spell actually changes you, instead of creating an illusion. Gets past touch and truesight tests and such.
The tavern itself appears to be getting a little testy, mainly because you're the third person in a cultist cloak to enter. The first two are looking at a map of the city over a table.

You blaze through the book, as you already know most of it. It would be at this part that a spell learned blurb would pop up if not mobile.

Of the cargo ships, most seem to be heading downriver. Apparently this place is 3 or 4 days from the ocean.
Some, however, are going upriver to somewhere called Forge. That's just the name. "Forge". Odd.
On the route of a ferry, some cross the river up into the mountain pass you came from, apparently leading south, and the northern mouth of the valley the city's in goes somewhere else. On top of that, there's another valley to the east? OK, there are a lot of places that cargo and people go from here.

 

I keep reading but pay attention to the other two

 

So can I change my appearance now? If so I turn into...

"Alright, thank you," Kae nods her head. She then goes to search the area for people of said description (nice description lol).

 

I've killed TOO MANY people today. I'll try, thanks.

 

They're talking about some stabbing, and a lead involving suspiciously familiar tales of a flaming inn and a death squad.

I think this whole interaction speaks for itself, really.

You emerge out of yet another random alley, somehow looking perfectly like a lizardman you barely interacted with a few days ago. So far, no hints of a death squad, but the day's still young (wait isn't it late afternoon?), and either way you don't know about that whole "death squad" thing yet anyway.

Isn't very hard to find a small crowd of said description over a literal funeral down by the docks, with a little service and dumping of the body into the river. The group is of about 10, some injured, all weary.

 

I keep my head low and try to read the rest of the book as fast as I can

 

I go look for hookers.

Kae goes over to the nearest person, taps their shoulder, and asks, "What's going on here?"

 

Oh hey, I found traces of Dez... maybe.
"Oh... How'd he do that?"

I'm going to pretend not showing up last time was a clever ploy to get more responses instead of me predictably passing out

The tavern quiets down as the sun creeps lower in the sky... again. Moving from mid-to-late afternoon is something, at least.
The lighting dims slightly as the sun dips behind the wall on the other side of the city, and the whole building takes on this dim and cozy theme. Someone starts a fire, and a halfling in the corner begins playing a harp.
You're not really paying attention to any of this, though, You have a book, and pretty soon you're gonna fini-
"Hey! You! Lizard guy! You work with us, right? Could we get some help over here?"

You wander the streets for a good while, but apparently wandering the streets during the day is not how you find hookers.

Sobbing Woman: "My son...*sniff*.. he was sick, and he.. he didn't make it."

"Mysteriously."
...
...
"Look, I don't know, he just left and came back later after meditating for 3 days on a distant mountaintop to find some uber-spell or something. Apparently makes it permanently docile?"

 

Well seeing as they're not trying to kill me I approach them.

 

Eradius: "Damn."
Well in that case I go back to the hotel; or whatever that place was.

 

".....How old was he...?" Kae asks making small talk.
