“When I escaped, I first went to the Free City of Ivan. A place with no slaves where all are equal. I soon learned to travel and got rich. Now, I seek to return to the wretched city of daggers, where assassins lurk and slaves toil, to try to upspur the Twin Kings and set the people free. The guards are simply because this desert is dangerous. Travelers and unarmed caravans usually do not make it through.”

 

Natasha: "I see."

"I think, perhaps, it will be to our mutual benefit to travel together. Perhaps, in time, you shall know more of what exactly we seek... for now, though, the fall of slavers seems a most laudable mission."

Ok so. You decided to travel with him, so you technically got through this encounter with no problem, so 1000 xp each

In-game time passes. You haven’t used any abilities so long rest but doesn’t matter

I’ll wake you tomorrow and something will happen as you travel towards the city

Tbh I’m kind of making it up as I go along, but it seems to be working.

Yo @Florfy5 as someone with some mystic experience, and a good tactician in general, do you think I would be better served by taking Psychic Assault or Psychic Disruption next level? Keep in mind that this is the Psionic Handbook Mystic, so Psychic Assault isn't quite as broken.

The reason I want to choose one of these is because

A. Natasha has an extremely hard time hitting foes with high AC and physical saves

B. I want some options to inflict status on foes

Psychic Assault comes with a bigger toolkit, but Disruption has some appealing debuffs, such as blindness, incapacitation, and disadvantage on all saves, all of which target the rare intelligence saving throw.

 

Alright, here's my analysis:

I'm not certain what Anafenza's damage output is, but Raedurg's is low. That said, we don't have a "magic" striker.

Psychic Assault has some of its own debuffs. Though they aren't quite as good, Psychic Blast and Psychic Crush affect a large area, potentially hitting the entire opposing party if they position poorly. A nicely placed AoE spell could be effective. Ego whip can also take a strong opponent out of combat for a turn, and Id Insinuation can render a magic user unable to use spells.

Its better abilities are costly in terms of psi, however, so if you have very psi-heavy disciplines, I'd take disruption. On top of that, the ability to give disadvantage on saving throws can make Raedurg's save-based spells like Dominate Person, Banishment, or Command more effective, as success is highly unlikely.

I'd personally take Psychic Assault in this case, but it's ultimately your choice.

 

I'll think on that a bit.

 

Anafenza has slightly higher than standard martial-character damage output. Her average attack round is two or three (Polearm Master AOO) halberd attacks, each of which deals 1d10 + 7 magical piercing damage. She can also use Divine Smite, her Polearm Master bonus attack (1d4 + 7), or her spells instead of weapon attacks.

 

So we have someone with high attack at melee. Good to know.

We have a bit before the next level for you to ponder it anyway, and I can't really criticize indecisiveness, being very indecisive at times myself (Which is why I like preparing spells).

 

You also get Improved Divine Smite fairly soon, right?

BTW, yet another feat that synchronizes well with polearms is Great Weapon Master, because polearms are considered heavy weapons and GWM really pushes your DPR with those weapons through the roof.

I'm primarily a melee striker, but owing to the nature of Soulknife disciplines I have quite a large toolkit of AoE and debuffs as well.

 

Debuffs are such a great thing, aren't they?
