Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Oh god. Not good, not good."
He tries to remove most of the barbs before pulling out the thorns.

"Will waking up work? This is just part of a dream, that's all."

 

The thorns are too small for that sort of precision with your claws.

Sgavrinn opens his mouth, but he’s not making any sound. His blood’s also disappearing.

 

"What's happening?"

 

"Now you see the power of mage crystals. You may not have much magic, but the magic you do have can be stored. You can slowly fill mage crystals to create your magic supply." Praecantatiw explains.

 

"I wasn't going to. I just shot the first to prove a point. Even if the original caster is unconscious, the spell can still persist."

 

"How's that different from a battery?"
Lenka seems curious, albeit confused.

"In that case, who do you think would be able to maintain it during my slumber?"

The ferret comes by.
"Hey, why's your friend waking up? What happened in there?!"

 

He shrugs.
“I dunno who lives within your storm.”

 

"He stepped in those thorns you said not to worry about!"

 

"They're much the same, but batteries can't always be recharged, nor can they recharge on their own." Praecantatia explains.

 

"I didn't think you'd actually go step on them!"

Lenka blinks.
"Uhm... hate to break it to you, but we've gotten to the point where they can."

"My daughters are pretty much the only ones who might be capable."

 

"Oh?" Praecantatia asks.

 

"Yeah, well, I didn't either! But it happened anyways!"

 

Lenka pulls up a hologram from a wristband, swipes to an image of a battery, then grabs it out of the air as it materializes and tosses it to Praecantatia.
"These things are worth about the same as a meal, and they store enough energy to get the emergency lights on for a bit. Nobody buys more than a handful because they also passively recharge themselves from depleted to full overnight."

"Okay, okay... Take a breath. How'd it happen?"

 

Praecantatia looks the battery over, before getting distracted as her cog necklace flashes.

"Oh, it seems I'm out of time here. I'll need to leave, but if you could, please give Stephanie the rest of the tour." Praecantatia requests, before hugging Stephanie and taking her leave to see Idhaenna.

 

“It’s worth try, no?”
The boy gets up and rests against the side of the house.

 

“Yes, ma’am.” Lenka nods.


Idhaenna seems a bit absorbed in reading Stephanie’s tome.

“I’ll give it a shot, but don’t expect me to lie down and cry if this winds up being the end of my people.” She says, weary but serious.

 

Praecantatia approaches her.

"I need to take my leave, my allotted time here has run out." Praecantatia says.

 

“So soon? What about Stephanie?”

 

“Proceed with caution.”
He warns as a golem snatches the circlets off the heads of the boys and brings them to Keila.
“And remember that the original caster doesn’t have to have the circlet on for the spell to continue.”

 

"How did it happen? I don't know. He was acting a bit off a few minutes after we entered the garden."
