Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

“It is not a job, it is a chosen way of life. Walking between worlds is a breathtaking gift, and The Great Destroyer is most kind.” They say. “If you were given the choice to live in a warzone or live within a palace safe from destruction with the ability to visit any world you wish, which would you choose?”

 

"'The Great Destroyer' sounds like the name of an edgy kid or someone who is not kind at all." David says flatly.

 

“She is a dragoness who could curl up and crush this city. Aside from a bit of an ego, she is far from cruel.”

 

"Ok that's...look I get you're some kind of magic scalie or whatever, but I ain't so...you go worship your furry god and I'll just, take this..." David says, taking the package and slowly closing his door.

 

“She doesn’t have fu-“
The dragon rolls their eyes before leaving.


A hydra with four heads (well... lost half a jaw, two necks are limp and slit down the middle, and the last is weary and has dozens of bite marks along its head) drags themselves towards the gates of the Shadow Palace, a few organs drug along on the ground behind them.
“H-hello...? Is... is this where she... w-wait... she never told me her name...”

 

David opens the package inside, looking at what it contains.


The guards glance at each other, before readying their weapons, pointing them toward the hydra.

 

It contains a laptop, mouse, two armband-things, and goggles.


It stops, shifting back a bit.
“W-wait, have you seen some... r-really tall lady... g-green hair and verdant wings?”

 

David sets things up, putting on the armbands and goggles and grabbing a mousepad for the mouse.


"And why should we tell you if we have, monster?" One of the guards snaps.

 

The goggles show a holodisplay that show the battery percentage, storage usage, and outlines of connections between the laptop, mouse, and armbands. Oddly, it says the laptop’s charging.
Nothing has a cord.


“S-she... fed me... for the first time... in so, so, long...”
They’re avoiding eye contact.

 

David turns on the laptop, curious.


"Yeah, I'm sure she did. Go crawl back into the cave you crawled out of monster, we don't want your illusionary kind here." The guard says sternly.

 

It’s already on, and it’s on a configuration screen.
“USE STELLARNET AUTOCONFIGURATION - MANUAL USER CONFIGURATION”


They glance at the guard’s foot before starting to turn, albeit as slowly as they came.

 

David tries using the mouse, using the keys if that doesn't work.


There's a slight scream, before a human splats into a bloody pancake in front of the hydra, bones sticking out of it in parts.

"Sorry!" An air guardian shouts from above, before flying off.

 

The mouse seems to stick to the bracelet, not needing a mousepad.


It sniffs at the corpse before looking towards the guards again.
“Could I...?”

 

David tries clicking on the 'manual' option.


The guards mutter between each other for a few moments.

"Drag it away with you, and don't come back." The guard says.

 

It brings up a few fields.
“Name:
Species:
Homeworld:
Hometown:”

 

David inputs:
"David
Human
Earth
Aspheren"

 

"I don't know. Haven't met her yet."

 

“Predicted Language: Common Tongue
CONFIRM/DENY”

“...Then why are you with her pet?”

 

David hits 'CONFIRM'

 

It automatically folds down and emits a holographic projection, an icon with “SN” on the bottom ring, along with a few other icons.

A popup offering a “guided user tour” is in the upper right of the holodisplay, and the mouse detaches itself from the wristband.
