"Hm..." Gil says, thinking.


"Yeah, your body needs a lot of things to keep it healthy, with two you'd need twice the stuff!" Alex says happily.

 

"Sorry bud. You'd have to ask your owner about that."

 

Pozel keeps quiet.


"Well, that aside... oh, I forgot to hide the humans. The Shadow King is bent on killing a bunch of servants to some madman, but he blew up an entire village with their mansion." Ihra sighs. "I'm sort of trying to figure out what they know before he just kills them for cleaning the halls he bloodied."

He nods, spreading the grass around a bit.

 

Gil zones out into thought, seeming to lose track of things around him.


"I'm just glad us Guardians have made a truce with the Shadows, I'd hate to be hunted by them like my late older relatives." Alex shivers.

 

Pozel blinks.
"...You okay?"


"The fact that the king's in love with one probably helps." Ihra shrugs.

 

"Huh? Oh, yeah I'm fine."


"In love? With whom?" Alex asks.

 

"Just making sure." Pozel says, putting the hololens back on his eye.


"A forest guardian, Artemis."

 

Gil opens a spreadsheet on his computer, looking through it.


"Artemis? That's an old name. How old is she?" Alex asks, curious.

 

Pozel peeks over at the spreadsheet, curious.


"I dunno, I didn't ask." Ihra shrugs. "If the name Myria means anything to you, though, that's her daughter."

 

It seems to be listing monthly earnings and spendings, Gil changing the page to weekly.


"I've read about her, she was a legendary Death Guardian who managed to keep things in her forest in perfect balance with her partner, and was sacrificed in a summoning ritual. How is her daughter dating the King of Shadows though? She died hundreds of years ago." Alex says.

 

Pozel checks the overall balance.


"I dunno, magic?" Ihra shrugs. "Myria was sacrificed to summon the shadow Artemis is with, though."

 

It seems to be around 9 gold, 57 Silver and 16 Bronze.


"That's...dark. Does she know?" Alex asks.

 

“I guess now’s the time to ask what the currency system is here.”


“Yes.”

 

“No. Not always.”

 

"Oh, well there's bronze, silver, gold, diamond and mage. One hundred bronze is one silver, one hundred silver is one gold, one thousand gold is one diamond, and one thousand diamond is one mage." Gil explains.


"That's really weird." Alex says, sounding confused.

 

“...Should I ask again, then?”

“What’s the buying power of one gold?”


Ihra just shrugs.

 

"Uh, well fish and chips are about four gold." Gil says.


Alex glances around idly.

 

"Is she taking good care of you?"

 

“So... one meal is a couple gold?”


She notices a dryad checking on some creature in a terrarium.

 

"Yeah, cheap meals that is." Gil says.

Alex walks over, looking in the terrarium.
