For example, I have Spike Growth to alter the terrain to my advantage, Cure Wounds for emergency healing, and Hunter's Mark just to give me a boost to damage output. I'll probably replace Ice Knife next level for a utility spell because that seems to be where I'm going."

Indeed. That would be useful.

There are some VERY useful spells i could give heat.
Such as expedtious retreat so you have a free dash.

Just wait until you can cast Greater Invisibility. Unlike regular invisibility, it doesn't get broken by attacking things or casting spells.
