Soooo.
Since going to level up soon I'ma take a wizard school BUT idk which one to take.
I've narrowed it down to 3 Conjuration,Divination, and necro.

Idk which to choose so i've set up pros and cons of each.

Conjuration.
Pros
1. It would give me minions.
2. Has a good variety of spells
3. I can temporarily make useful items.

Cons
1.Minions only last a minute
2. Lots of combat spells, not much use outside combat
3. Items aren't always needed.

Divination
Pros.
1. Replacing bad rolls for our side and good rolls for enemies.
2.Very good at finding things.
3.6th level ability let's me regain spell slots of less level so theoretically one 6th lvl spell can last for 1 6th,5th,4th,3rd and 2nd as long as it's divination

Cons
1.Horrible in combat, like i'ma be a complete dead weight in a fight (Even more so than now)
2.How often do we need to find things?
3. 1st it's a 6th lvl ability second it only works for divination spells.

Finally necro
Pros.
1.I can cast animate undead on a pre existing zombie/Elton and stop a combat.
2. Lots of healing based spells
3. Semi decent school abilities.

Cons.
1. Walking snacks for kinte.
2. Party is already discussing killing me
3. Best school ability is lvl 14... so i'd have to be lvl 17 to get it.

 

Um, what? A wizard's spell choices are in no way tied to their school choice, so you can still take all the combat spells you like (though any halfway competent wizard should be focused on controlling the battlefield, not causing direct damage).

Also, Portent allows a Diviner to serve as an amazing "chessmaster" on the battlefield, as you already mentioned, and if you make skilled use of your abilities you should always be going into important fights well-informed about what you're facing. Once you can cast Arcane Eye it becomes nearly broken because you can basically map out an entire dungeon while sitting at the entrance.

 

Ik but i'd specialize im that catagory of spells.

I feel like a lot of people play Wizard like this and I don't really understand it.
Sure, if you ever wanted to make a ton of scrolls it'd be good to take a lot of spells in your school, but there's no other reason. You're just hindering yourself, and there's no real reason to do that.

 

I think it's more baffling that some people try to play every wizard like an Evoker and think they have to throw around big flashy damaging spells in every combat.

 

Besides, I think we have enough dps in our party to sustain ourselves in combat.

 

An useful character is not always a character who do damages.

That's why I gave Alas comprehend languages, suggestions, mask of many faces, and maybe something else, I don't remember.
