"I hunt them usually, but I'll try to control myself a bit when I'm here."

 

"Well, good thing you got me over one of the Dethroned. Hopefully you get that same luck for all three rounds of qualification."

"In exchange for something better, safer, more exciting. Tradition is the only thing left."


"The guard's creepy enough." Ihra mutters.

"Well, there's a guide, but they're a ferret. If you could not kill them, that'd be great."

 

"What would happen if I do kill it?"
He smiled

 

"You'd be trapped here in a dreamer's prison. I might wake your dragon friend in front of you while I'd be at it."

 

"So I would be stuck here? Yeah, I don't want that."

 

"Then how about not killing the ferret?"

 

“I take that they’re a powerful bunch?”

 

Sel just looks disappointed, glancing away.


"You didn't see the others?" I ask.

 

"Will do. Will you take me to him then?"

 

"Not good enough to stay in the leagues, but battle hardened beyond belief."

"No, but I can tell you that he's listening in on us right now."

"...But we know there's something more, right? There's something about flesh that... I can't put my finger on it. It just... feels better. Feels more normal. Feels more right."


"No, I sort of beelined for you."

 

"It's what Nymphaeria sort of...intends for us." Sel says.


"Well, that's good. You didn't see the ones beside the door at least." I say.

 

Surprised he looks around.
"Where is he then?"

 

“Nym-who?”


“That’s not particularly comforting... then again, I wasn’t looking. The door looks like it could try to kill you.”

There’s a ferret sitting on Sgavrinn’s back.
“Hiya, right here! Was wondering when you’d notice me!”
Sgavrinn seems a bit spooked, rearing up.

 

"My goddess! The goddess of faeries!" Sel says happily.


"It'll destroy anyone unwanted if they get close." Artemis says.

"Using the element strongest against them, too." I add.

 

"Be careful. Don't scare Sgavrinn, cause I don't know how he'd react to it."

He walks over to the ferret.
"The name is Bardock."

 

“I guess there’ll be a chance I get one of them next round.”

 

“There’s... a goddess specifically for fae?”


“Why not just make a null zone? Kill everyone and everything?”

“He’s just a big baby. Nice to meet you, Bardock, I feel like I’ve seen you a few times. Anyhow, come on, the town hardly rests, let’s get going!” It says, leaping off Sgavrinn and running “down” the wall.

“If you beat me, yeah. Beyond qualification, they never tell you who you’re fighting until you’re in the arena with no backing out.”

 

"Don't you have a name?!" He yells while he runs behind the ferret.

 

“I like that.”
He smiles.
“It’s fun to think on your feet.”

 

Sel nods.


"Because that would kill people we don't want killed." I say.

"Such as yourself falling prey to it." Artemis adds.
